New Home, Same Problem
The Super Bowl Champs will have some new digs in 2010. Ground breaking began on September 5, 2007, but site work didn’t commence until almost 7 months later. It will seat 82,500 fans with over 200 luxury suites, 9200 club seats, 2 club lounges, and 4 restaurants. In each corner of the stadium 4 massive LCD screens will be hung in the upper deck. Now, here is where they are trying to get clever.
Unlike the current stadium the Giants and Jets play at, the new one will feature color changing schemes. So when the Giants are home it will be red and blue and when the dismal Jets are home it will be green and white. Hmmm…seems okay, but isn’t there a better way? I mean, what if these supposed brilliant businessmen could come up with something a little more original; practical. I have an idea.
Give Gang Green the old park! What’s the big deal? Change the name to Jets stadium or even bring in a sponsor and fix it up. There is no reason that the teams should share a sports ground. Sure, teams share facilities with other professional organizations, but not ones that play the same sport. It doesn’t make sense. PNC Park in Pittsburgh was built at the same time as Heinz Field. Two different playing fields for two different teams. Sure, when the Giants and Jets used Shea it was understandable: One field for three different teams. But then times changed, money came in, and a site was selected. And now, forty years later, it’s time to build a new place. I’m sick of this sharing crap. The place is called Giants stadium for cryin’ out loud! That’s got to eat away at Jets fans’ sense of entitlement.
And what have the Jets done to deserve a new home? I’m not trying to be a dick or anything and honestly I have no animosity towards the Jets, this isn’t a Yankees Mets thing, but seriously come on. A friend of mine has some insane connections and while he had no problem getting season tickets to the Jets; he found it impossible to get them for the G-MEN. And it really is. Families pass them down through generations. I read a story where some guy passed away and one of his sons told his siblings that he didn’t care about any of the money. He just wanted the tickets. I’ve never heard that about the Jets. They’ve won 1 championship in 48 years. That’s not too good. And yes it was the famous Super Bowl lll for which Namath guaranteed victory over the heavily favored Colts, but still 1 out of 48 is nothing to write home about. So please, I’m sure it’s too late, but if any Mara or Johnson is reading this reconsider. You’ll thank me in the long run.

The Jets will never agree to stay in the old stadium. They’ll want the new one so they can get the big bucks from the luxury box’s and so forth. If the old stadium was still good, nobody would be building a new one.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:15 pmI agree with G. Jets should have their own stadium. If not, call the new one Jiants Stadium!
May 28th, 2008 at 9:33 pmIt really boggles my mind why you two share a stadium. It only causes headaches for you and the league. New York has plenty of money to remodel the old stadium.
May 29th, 2008 at 8:12 amWestcoast. Not any more. The former mayor spent all of NY’s money on extracurricular activities
May 29th, 2008 at 3:48 pmI totally agree with article. I’m sure there is some place in New York that the Jets could try to purchase for their stadium. They got shot down once for their own stadium, but it dosen’t mean you have to give up, then tap on the Giants shoulders and say hey, can we still play in your new park? I have nothing against the jets either, but man you got to shop harder…
May 29th, 2008 at 7:41 pmWell if NY is really out of money then that shouldn’t have two teams to support. Have the Jets move to Charlotte or something. Im sure there is a big enough fan base somewhere that would love to have them.

May 31st, 2008 at 7:14 amI don’t see what all the crying is about. Your like a little kid that doesn’t want to share his Big Wheel. It has to do with money. The Jets will benefit from it more than the Giants and that is what really tick you off. That’s the truth.
May 31st, 2008 at 1:13 pmIndividuality. Is this Pee Wee’s Playhouse?
May 31st, 2008 at 1:14 pmTo make this understandable for you Giants fans, there is a lot of stuff involved in this decision for the Giants and the Jets to share a stadium. The Jets need MORE revenue to become competative again, and this new stadium will give them that for a while.
Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks explains the salary cap situation here……..http://www.blogmaverick.com/2008/05/25/understanding-salary-caps-and-why-the-nfl-opted-out/
If you are wandering about HOW this applies to the subject of your post, read it, and it explains itself, but in a nutshell, the Jets need MORE revenue, and the city will benefit more from it also. Yea, sharing sucks. But that’s the downfall of having 2 NFL teams in one city.
