Who will be the new WR in blue?

by Giants

With all the drama swirling around our wide receiver situation I decided to voice my input.
Let me start with this. Losing Plax hurts. No matter how you look at it, he was a big part of our offense. He was our game breaker that teams had to pay special attention too. Burress also possessed tremendous size which is going to be difficult to replace.

At this current point in time we have Steve Smith, Domenick Hixon, Mario Manningham, Sinorice Moss, David Tyree, Derrick Hagan, and Tay Biddle as our wideouts. Only the first three are guaranteed to be on the squad come September (baring injury/trade). So one maybe two receivers need to be added in the coming weeks.

There has been recent rumors (although they have been shot down by Mike Garafolo) that the Giants will soon be acquiring Braylon Edwards from the Browns. I still believe that this would be the best move we could make, and I think it’s the move we will ultimately make. We have an abundance of draft picks this year and ten rookies can not make the New York Giants roster. Reese WILL be moving picks through trades for players and/or trade ups in the draft. Reports say the Giants only want to give up their 2nd round pick (#45-per Saints) with a mid rounder for Edwards, but as the draft gets closer I can see them pulling the trigger and giving their 1st and 4th (possibly even their 3rd). Edwards would be a great fit and N.Y, and the 26 year old has the potential to truly become a star playing with a stable quarterback. I see trade being worked out in the days before the NFL Draft on the 25th.

If a trade is not worked out with the Browns a trade for Anquan Boldin or Chad Ocho Cinco (although less likely) is not out of the question. Boldin is a terrific player but we really need a guy that can stretch the field, and thats not his MO. Ocho, although very talented, is a total head case and I cant see us bringing him in after dealing with Plaxico.

If you look at the draft Michael Crabtree and Hakeem Nicks seem to be the two players that contribute at WR for a team the quickest. If Crabtree somehow slips to ten our lower I would be all for trading up to get him. It would cost alot (likely 2nd,3rd,5th and a mid round pick next year) but Crabtree is a special player and could be a star from day one. If we stay but Hakeem Nicks could be a nice option. Nicks ran an NFL route tree at UNC and looks to be able to help at team out from the get go.

Best Scenarios (in order):

  • Trade For Braylon Edwards
  • Trade for Anquan Boldin
  • Trade up for Michael Crabtree (IF [big if] he falls to ten or lower)
  • Trade for Chad Ocho Cinco
  • Draft Hakeem Nicks

i posted on the vikings age blog for a while now because i live in n.iowa and am in the heart of viking country. my uncle lives in minnesota and is a huge viking fan. he told me that viking fans are really piss poor backers of there team and he believes that they will be the team that moves to L.A. when the nfl is ready for them because they have no fan backing and state help for funding a new stadium. he said someone needs to wake these fans up to it. so i went on the blogs and continued to say that the vikings were going to move to L.A. boy did i get trashed for it......but it worked. i got some of their attention even if it was negative. sometimes you gotta do it that way. no hate intended, but you gotta make a statement to get one back sometimes?????

well sodev, i really can be a nice guy. i like talkin football and a long time ago i came on here because of the nfc ties, made a few comments and got thuroughly trashed. i could'nt figure it out. i came on here with no hateful intent at all. the closest i can recon is that another poster was confused with his post for mine and i took all the heat for it. so in all fairness i retailiated with alittle of my own trash, and well the next thing you know i'm branded a bad egg here. funny thing about these blogs, the same thing happens on some of the others also. i'm not a trouble maker, but i tell it like it is whether it's for the cowboys or against them, or any other team for that matter. it just seems when you go on a rivals blog they automatically think it's for a rumble. but yeah it's good to hear from you too. i'm looking forward to a good season and as always the nfc east with you guys, us, philly, and the skins is gonna be a slug fest. you guys will be strong again on D. philly may get that wr, and the skins are a year or 2 away from hittin it. so this has got to be our year cause we ain't gettin any younger either. it's a coin toss in the east?

When I saw that you posted, I didn't expect that dave.

Can't wait till week 2! 8)

i think the iants will find a way to get edwards. the price might be high, but he is in his up-coming-prime stage in his career. his rookie messes are over? and his maturity as an nfl wr is at it's peek. if a good coach like coughlin can get a hold of him now, it would be a benefit for him and the giants......he would be worth the price. alot of people are bashin the cowboys too for making a similar trade with detroit for roy williams. well i see it as roy being the perfect fit for dallas this year as i believe we will see the cowboys try to run the football like you guys this year with our 3 backs. i believe that is the way to win games in the nfc east. it also protects your defense. you guys know that. edwards fits that mold also for you guys. better than any rookie that will take 3 years to develop. we will have some hard fought battles this year guys, looking forward to it.

santaferay I hope your right. I think if we dont get crabtree we dont pick a wr in the 1st round. If sean smith is available we trade up to get this kid he would be very versatile. he can play cb,fs,ss and thats how reese likes to draft. people will say im nuts but we only need a tall, physial, long armed wr for red zone situations and i think patrick turner or ramses barden will fill that void and we can pick either up on the second day. edwards would be a nice addition but kind of pricey to resign and i dont think he would be worth the money.. limits what we could do next year.

You are concentrating too much on draft picks. Think bigger. Spag's needs defense to make the Rams competitive. He will trade their #1 to the Giants for-----wait for the drum roll ---- Kiwanuka, Cofield or Alford, Blackburn (who will call the defensive signals)and the Giants #2. All these players know Spag's system and can teach their new teammates. This is the reason the Giants signed Canty, Bernard and another linebacker. The Giants then draft Michael Crabtree.
THis was all set up when Spag's left. Put it in the books!!
