Having the unfortunate circumstance of living in Philadelphia, I did not get to see the Giants-Jets game on Saturday night. Not a single snap. That is the second biggest downfall of living in Philly (the other, obviously, being all the Eagles fans around) because following games on the computer is pure torture, despite the fact that you don’t have to listen to Joe Buck make a mockery of color commentating.
Once the regular season starts, though, I won’t have to worry about that ’cause I get NFL Sunday Ticket (btw, if you have DirecTV order The Ticket. It’s one of the best things about football season. You can watch [...]
Archive for August, 2009
As the G-Men broke training camp, cornerback Aaron Ross re-injured his left hamstring. After missing the lionshare of camp, Ross returned to practice Monday and boasted about how good the hammy felt, he then pulled it trying to cover (the real) Steve Smith and had to be carted off the field. If there’s one thing I hate, it’s liars.
The good news is we’ll probably get to see how good Terrell Thomas is. The bad news is I already miss R-Dub. With all these injuries the Giants are starting to look like the Mets. Let’s pray once the season starts the injury bug stays away from [...]
You can’t win ‘em all…
Wow. That was one of the most depressing games I’ve ever seen. Against the Bears Saturday, the Giants looked flat and lifeless. It’s a shame because at the very beginning they looked decent. Their first defensive series they made some good plays and bended but didn’t break, the team looked fired up, Jacobs had a few nice runs, they were moving the ball and I had high hopes; but after a couple of plays they just fell apart and I died a little inside.
I know the G-Men had a lot of starters out, but they’d better get their heads out of their arses. Watching that game was like torture. Now I [...]
November 1: Favre in Lambeau
I know I’m not in the majority here, but I’m glad Brett Favre is coming back to the NFL for a 19th season. Let me explain. At first I was pissed because he was inciting another media slurp-fest, but then I remembered he’s going to have to play the Packers twice this year. Once, of course, in Lambeau; and if you’re not the slightest bit curious as to how that’ll play out, I don’t think you’re a real football fan. Think about it: a guy plays 16 years for a team, is more-or-less the face of the franchise, is WORSHIPED by fans and [...]
Giants undefeated in ‘09!
I was very pleased with Monday’s 24-17 win over the Panthers for many reasons. First, the running game looked phenomenal. Jacobs was on his game, Bradshaw was nice and Danny Ware made a name for himself. Ware’s 36-yard catch-and-run TD at the end of the first half was a thing of beauty. He looked like Tiki in his prime, you know, without the back-stabbing, pretentiousness and undeserved sense of entitlement.
Also, Mario Manningham could be the new deep threat. He looked good on that first punt return, and it seems he’s got some speed. Granted, Manningham is no Plax on the field [...]
Training camp fracas
With just over a week to go before the first preseason game, apparently there were fisticuffs thrown at Giants training camp on Sunday. According to Giants.com, Bryan Kehl and Madison Hedgecock got into it during an 11-on-11 drill and had to be restrained. Supposedly there were other instances of emotions getting the best of players too.
Where I’m going with all this is: does Training Camp Ruckus bring teams closer or tear them apart?
I remember reading Strahan’s book and it talks about a fight he had with former center Scott Gragg in training camp in the mid-90’s. During said [...]
Eli: Mo’ money, Mo’ problems
Two Giants that have something to prove this season:
1. Antonio Pierce – He dodged a bullet (literally and figuratively) with the whole Plax thing, and now his career has new life. He’d better make the most of it, because if the fans start booing at Giants Stadium he’s going to wish he’d been sent up the river.
2. Eli Manning – He makes more than Peyton; I’m not sure how I feel about that, given the way he played against the Iggles in the playoffs last year. I don’t think E deserves it, however, every time I say something like that [...]
Free Plaxico!
Call me crazy, but I feel bad for Plaxico Burress. He didn’t hurt anyone, besides himself, and he got a raw deal. There are so many worse things he could have done: killed someone (see: Ray Lewis), raped a woman (see: Big Ben), taken a dump in his girlfriend’s hamper (see: Najeh Davenport), or some other awful act. Lest we forget, he didn’t paralyze a strip club worker (see: Pacman), he didn’t organize a dog-fighting ring (see: Vick), he just shot himself.
The old saying goes, ‘If you need a gun to go somewhere you probably shouldn’t be going there.’ Well [...]
