On Wide Receiver Options…

facebooktwitterreddit

Ralph Vacchiano posted an article yesterday about Ramses Barden being done for the season with a fractured ankle and ligament damage.  But he also put up a tweet yesterday that got me thinking:

"Derek Hagan is a free agent and a possibility … And Victor Cruz is still on season-ending injured reserve. #NYG"

The Giants currently only have 3 healthy receivers to choose from – Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham, and Duke Calhoun.   Steve Smith is still out with a pectoral strain.  Victor Cruz is on IR. Sinorice Moss was injured and released.  Domenick Hixon, you get the point.  But special teams superstar and uber-reliable WR backup Derek Hagan was cut during the off season and is still available…. hmm.

Derek Hagan is an imposing receiver, he runs good routes, has great hands — and like David Tyree before him he seems to perk up at the thought of playing special teams.  He is a standout on the unit, always was.

So the question becomes — can the Giants get Derek Hagan on the roster ASAP?  He knows the offense, knows his role, and he can execute.  Can the Giants get him signed for a big practice session tomorrow?
