O-line and wide receiver issues are not my concern

THE BUZZ ahead of the G-Men’s first season-defining match-up is all about the injuries on the offensive line and the decimation of the wide receiving corps.

But, all these concerns are not what will win or lose the game for Big Blue this Sunday night.

As mentioned in previous blog posts, it’s all about the pass rush baby!

We’ll all know if the Giants have any chance in this one after the first three Eagles offensive series. If Tuck, Osi, Canty and the boys are getting some rush on Vick, then we have a chance.

Anyone who watched the MNF game will be forgiven for having a sense of sweaty-browed unease.

In my view, Vick is, thus far, the head-and-shoulders MVP of the league and his MNF display was tremendous.

The first play of the game, an 80+ yard throw to Action Jackson, and others on Monday, seem to be just the kind of plays which could work against the Giants.

Maybe I’m still married to the painful scenes of last year’s sieve-like secondary and images of Can’t Cover Brown flailing around and giving more big plays than Shakespeare.

However, there were definitely some worrying secondary issues in last week’s game against the Cowboys. I think we have some weaknesses against the ultra-deep ball and the 20-yard route over the middle – both of which the Eagles are accomplished at. The speed of Jackson and Maclin is frightening.

Alas, it’s challenges such as these which make or break your season. You can’t expect to get to the Super Bowl by beating up on the likes of Carolina, Seattle, Houston and Detroit. You have to prove you can win huge games in hostile territory.

So let’s see where these 2010 Giants truly are! If we can get a win at The Linc on Sunday, then I’ll suddenly be a big believer that we can beat any team on our day and that’s all you can ask for in this league.

P:S: Another key this week which won’t have anything to do with the O-line or WRs is the running game. In the first Eagles/Skins match-up, the Skins were able to have some pretty good success with the run. I expect Gilbride to go to the run initially and we could have some luck there. That said, I thought Bradley and Sims looked solid on MNF. We’ll see, as Sgt Maj Coughlin likes to say so much.
