Here are today’s updates for the NY Giants injury report:

  • OL David Diehl (hip, hamstring) is practing today.   He will try to return for the Minnesota game this weekend.
  • WR Steve Smith (pectoral tear) might also try to return this weekend. He is limited today in practice.
  • WR Hakeem Nicks (leg) is doing individuals to start. He may take snaps depending on his progress.
  • C Shaun O’Hara (sprained foot) was going to try to go today.
  • OL Shawn Andrews (back) “feels better” and is working individually on the sideline.
  • KR Will Blackmon (chest) is limited.

There will be another check-in tonight by team doctors, there will be updates tonight and tomorrow to discuss progress or changes as they happen via the Giants communications department.

Assuming Shawn Andrews is not ready to return, Diehl will likely be back at left tackle this Sunday if he doesn’t suffer any setbacks, which is bitter-sweet for me.  He’s a good guy, but Beatty needs the reps and has show he can be relied on to keep DEs of opposing teams off Eli Manning for 60 minutes.  No sacks in 5 games — it’s impressive.  Shawn Andrews was in there for a few of those games but Beatty has shown improvement and that he’s up to the challenge.  Part of me is nervous that Diehl will not be in prime condition to go toe-to-toe with the Vikings’ defensive ends, Jared Allen isn’t exactly a lightweight. I’d rather give Beatty the nod since he’s been playing for several weeks now. But it’s not my call, and Diehl will likely get the start if he’s ready.

Of course, Kevin Boothe has done a nice job at left guard filling in for Rich Seubert and Diehl as well.
