Yes the roles and backgrounds of players are different. However, if Robbins was on the Giants instead of Canty or Bernard based on his 2010 production in any capacity -- would the Giants be better off?

A few points regarding Robbins and Canty. They are on different teams now, each with different coordinators. Robbins established his reputation entirely under Spagnuolo and that is what he is continuing to do. Canty played as a 3-4 run defending end with the Cowboys and is now playing under a Perry Fewell who does not blitz as aggressively as Spags did. The Giants have a lot of DEs and like to use a 3rd DE as a DT on passing downs. I am guessing the rams are likely sparing Robbins the grind of playing obvious run downs and bringing him for extra interior pressure in obvious passing situations. Whereas Canty role first and foremost with the Giants is as a run defender, he is probably substituted for more on passing downs than on run downs because the Giants need his strength vs the run, more than they need his pass rush. The Rams don't have the number of pass rushers the Giants do, so Robbins role with that team is very different.
