HI Jim,

An MLB is definitely a critical pick up. I can't blame the secondary ENTIRELY. The LB corp could/should have been more aware of the play calling. Too many receptions happened in between the secondary and the LB's. It seemed there was just a tad too much zone coverage for my taste and the yards that Grossman put up show it.

I don't mind Eli's demeanor so much as I do the mental mistakes he continues to make. Listening to the post game interviews is like listening to a broken record at this point. He's in his 8th year. "Development" is no longer a word that should apply to him.

The play calling was questionable, to say the least. I did a piece on Giants.com last year detailing Gilbride's drives and mapping out his success as a coach in the NFL. While it looked good on paper, he doesn't seem to be improving. This, of course, is a concern.

A few adjustments here and there and we should be fine. Hey, it's Giants football...a perpetual roller coaster ride. It's these valleys that make us appreciate the peaks.

You’re right Sean there’s no reason to go jumping off the ledge or even heading towards it just yet.

Our two starting DEs and Prince A will return soon and no doubt we will pick up an experienced middle LB any day now. All that should make a significant impact on the quality of play and the pass coverage. However the offense is pretty much set personnel wise so what can we expect from them besides the development they and every other team will go through as the season progresses?

Eli is the main factor here and heaven help me, but as much as I love what he can do, I hate the fact that there’s no fire in him. He’s complacent. He’ll do his part and if given a good team he’ll contribute to victories, but he’s not the sparking team leader we need right now. Doesn’t he know how to get angry? He should fling his helmet once just to see what it feels like!

And what’s up with not being able to make 1 yrd on at least two occasions? A simple run play that worked would have been an excellent opportunity to show that the O line can dominate, but at the same time with a little creative play calling we might have picked up those first downs, extended the drives and given the offense more opportunity to jell. Giant football is smash-mouth, but if your line can’t do it for you now, win with creativity until you can.

Since it’s too soon to really get a handle on the team, pointing fingers at TC isn’t appropriate but I hope he gets control of this group and makes them play up their potential. Otherwise they’ll be a lot of us heading for that ledge before long.
