Cornerback Prince Amukamara, 23 6′ 0″ 207lbs 2nd year, will most likely miss week 1. He suffered a high ankle sprain in the first preseason game of 2012 against the Chicago Bears. He is healing well and it looks like a return in week 2 is probable.

“I haven’t been able to run, but (the) walking is good, and getting on my toes is good,” said Amukamara. “I couldn’t even do that three days ago, so I’m glad that I’m progressing.” He continued, “I’m thinking Week 2 is more promising, but I want Week 1 to be promising as well. They haven’t told me yes and they haven’t told me no.”

“The doctor was impressed by how quickly I’ve been improving, and he said it’s still a day-by-day thing,” explained Amukamara. “I have to start running and start practicing first — and I haven’t done that — so as soon as I get the OK from the trainers we’ll go from there.’’

Amukamara is under pressure to perform at a very high level this season. He was drafted in the first round out of Nebraska last year and missed the first nine games of the season due to injury. In the seven games he played he made 14 tackles and 1 interception and did not play with the confidence that the Giants would like to see in a first round draft pick. Giants fans and teammates are hoping to see Prince Amukamara become one of the top cornerbacks in the league this year.
