2013 NFL Draft: The Giants Select…

The Fansided 2013 Mock Draft has been in full swing for a few weeks now.  The positions are now set for the non playoff teams and the Giants are slotted at #19.  We will review this mock draft each week and see who they believe the Giants will select.  This weeks edition has the following entry.

"19. New York Giants. Sam Montgomery. Defensive End, LSU — Osi Umenyiora is likely done as a Giant, and Justin Tuck/Jason Pierre-Paul weren’t their usual dominant selves. The Giants averaged just two sacks per game, which is really low for them. Nobody had double-digit sack totals."

While the above assessment may be factual, it hardly addresses the true needs of this team.  Indeed OSi may be leaving, but Mathias Kiwanuka and others are quite capable of stepping into his place.  The return of players like Markus Kuhn and Marvin Austin, and the development of Adele Ojomo will certainly shore up the D-line.  Sack numbers can be mis-leading, and the amount of pressure should not be measured in sack totals alone.

The Giants need a stud O-Lineman…They need to replace David Diehl, and do it with someone slated to start for the next ten years in the league.  Beatty, Boothe, Baas, Snee, Brewer, and others are on the roster currently.  They need to develop some depth and bring in another big time player.
