Giants: Roster Review…Running Backs

facebooktwitterreddit

This is going to have to be one of those tricks that Jerry Reese performs this off-season.  The current roster for the New York Giants has the following names listed at running back: Kregg Lumpkin, Ryan Torain, and David Wilson.  That’s it.  Andre Brown is recovering from a broken leg and is a restricted free agent whom the Giants will no doubt bring back under some sort of incentive laden short term deal, if he is healthy.  Fan favorite Da’Rell Scott has not actually shown much in the regular season, and has spent lots of time on the injured list.  He is not listed on the current roster because he was placed on injured reserve last season.  He will be back on the roster when the league year begins March 12th.

So…David Wilson will get his shot to be number 1 along with Andre Brown.  Henry Hynoski is solidly in place at fullback, and hopefully Da’rell Scott can stay healthy and stay in the rotation of running backs every team needs.  For a team that has struggled mightily running the ball the past two seasons, this situation will be examined closely throughout the off season.  The Offensive line needs to be improved, bu these gentleman are going to need to perform when the opportunity arises.

For a while I thought Ahmad Bradshaw could be the next Chase Blackburn…meaning he returns when we need him for a short term low cost deal and shows what he can do after a prolonged resting of his oft injured feet and ankles.  Running back is a different position though, and I’m not sure if the comparison is valid.
