More NY Giants Free Agency News: Rivers, Phillips, Mundy

The New York Giants continue to be very active and it’s clear that general manager Jerry Reese is determined to make positive changes in the defense.

OLB Keith Rivers has resigned for a one-year deal. Keith Rivers came to the Giants in 2012 in a trade for fifth-round draft pick. He was a 2008 first-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals. If Mathias Kiwanuka moves to defensive end then Rivers will likely become a starter. The terms of the deal have not yet been released.

Former New York Giants Safety Kenny Phillips has signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. He was the Giants’ 2008 first-round pick. Many fans liked Phillips but in the end I don’t think he’ll be missed.

Safety Ryan Mundy, formerly of the Pittsburgh Steelers, visited the New York Giants today and reports are that a contract signing is in the works. Ryan Mundy would be competing for a back-up safety spot and would play on special teams.  This is the same role he played in Pittsburgh. This move is to fill the open spot created by the departure of Safety Kenny Phillips.
