Giants: Reviewing the Off-Season Moves

facebooktwitterreddit

It has turned out to be a very busy off-season so far for the New York Giants, and in true Jerry Reese and Giants fashion every move has been made with purpose and on their terms.  Here is a review.

2/5/13 Michael Boley Released..The recently oft injured LB was released to save some money and to get more athletic at the position.

2/6/13 Chris Canty, Ahmad Bradshaw released..Martin Parker waived.  More cost cutting moves of injury plagued players.

2/7/13 Shaun Rogers re-signed.  Rogers was having a great camp last year before suffering from blood clots.

2/11/13 Terrell Thomas re-signed.  Hopefully Terrell is fully healthy and can contribute at a high level.

2/13/13 David Buehler Signed.  Lawrence Tynes is a free agent and will get a nice offer.

2/27/13 Will Beatty Re-Signed.  Beatty signed a mutually beneficial contract for 5 years, a great move by the Giants.

3/11/13 Cullen Jenkins signs.  A quiet negotiation, and the Giants land what they called their top free agent target from outside the team.

3/13/13 Josh Brown and Ryan Torain signed.  Torain for RB depth and competition, and Brown for the same reasons at kicker.

3/14/13 Ryan Mundy and Aaron Ross signed.  Trying to add depth to the secondary with the loss of Kenny Phillips, the Giants signed Safety Mundy as depth, and brought back hard hitting Aaron Ross.

3/15/13 Keith Rivers Signs.  Keith showed promise when healthy last season, and should play a bigger role this year.

3/16/13 Dan Connor Signs.  The linebacker from the Cowboys and the Panthers will bring veteran leadership along with his physical talents.  Chase Blackburn might move on, but either way Connor is a good addition.

3/17/13 Brandon Myers signs.  As surmised previously here on GMenHQ TE Brandon Myers comes over from the Raiders and instantly adds a red zone presence to the offense.

Louis Murphy has also agreed to a contract, a move that will add speed to the wide receiver corps and to the return game.  Keep in mind that with David Wilson becoming the featured back, his role in the return game may diminish.  Jerrell Jernigan will have competition and a partner in Murphy.

Ramses Barden and or Domenk Hixon most likely will not return to the team. David Diehl and Corey Webster have taken pay cuts to remain with the team, and David Baas has had his contract re-structured.

While the Giants have lost some names like Martellus Bennett and Kenny Phillips they have certainly done a lot of adding.  The questions now linger over if Victor Cruz and his new agent will sign the long term deal the Giants have offered, will Osi ever get an offer from another team, will Chase Blackburn become a Cowboy?

Stay tuned!
