Giants head coach Tom Coughlin met with reporters at the NFL Combine this afternoon, confirming that he’s agreed to a one-year contract extension (video can be found here). The news was originally reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport via twitter, who also believes the dollar figure will remain at approximately $7 million.

With his previous three-year deal set to expire after the upcoming campaign, Coughlin will no longer be forced to operate as a lame duck coach in 2014. At 67 years of age, even a one-year extension is a vote of confidence — particularly given a highly disappointing 2013. In typically cautious organizational fashion, the Giants have not bitten off more than they can chew.
