Uh oh. Giants’ middle linebacker Jon Beason was carted off the practice field this morning with an apparent right foot injury. Per an update from the New York Daily News, Tom Coughlin said Beason “felt something in the bottom of his foot”, but offered no further details. With just two OTA workouts remaining, this could be an awful break for Beason and the Giants. While the severity is unclear at this point, his injury history doesn’t leave much room for optimism.

The veteran Beason signed a three-year $16.8 million deal in March, with $6 million of that money guaranteed. If Beason is forced to miss any substantial length of time, the Giants have a huge black hole at middle linebacker. Special teams extraordinare Mark Herzlich is next in the line on the MLB depth chart. Other names include UDFA’s Dan Fox (Notre Dame) and Justin Anderson (Louisiana Lafayette).

Stay tuned for more details as they’re made public.
