Justin Pugh Injury Update

When New York Giants right tackle Justin Pugh exited last Sunday’s game against the San Francicso 49ers with a strained quad in the team’s second offensive series, not a lot was made of it until after the game when it was revealed that this injury was actually a re-aggravation of the same injury suffered the previous week versus the Seattle Seahawks.

Pugh was able to play through the pain in Seattle and felt well enough to give it a go last Sunday, but it wasn’t long before the quad became an issue again this time forcing him to watch helplessly on the sidelines as his replacement, Charles Brown, struggled to fill the void.

When asked about his status for this Sunday’s game versus the Dallas Cowboys, Pugh felt confident he would be ready to go stating, “That is my plan (to play), this is what I want to do. I don’t want to sit out, you hate being out there when you feel like you could something to help the team win.” It is evident that Pugh is doing everything possible to be ready for Sunday and is planning on playing.

It is up to the team if they feel that Pugh can handle the stress of playing without making the injury worse and potentially risking Pugh’s long-term status.

It appears at this point barring any setbacks in practice this week, that Pugh will be ready to go on Sunday for Big Blue and they will certainly need him if they look to pull off what is seen as an upset win despite the game being played in MetLife Stadium.

If Pugh cannot go on Sunday, expect a line shuffle that could see Geoff Schwartz, who will be playing in his first game all season due to a dislocated toe that landed him on short-term inured reserve, slide over to Pugh’s spot at right guard to avoid another dreadful performance by Brown.
