New York Giants Must Pursue Antonio Cromartie

As rumors of cornerback Antrel Rolle entering the free agent market, him returning to the New York Giants looks bleak. There is going to be a big gap to fill at the cornerback position that if the Giants don’t address, they will regret it come next season. That’s why the Giants should sign cornerback Antonio Cromartie before the New York Jets possibly do.

Cromartie will hit free agency after coming off a 1 year deal with the Arizona Cardinals that saw him bounce back nicely after many thought father time got to him. He contributed 48 tackles and three interceptions. He rejuvenated his career and will be sought after by numerous teams once free agency hits.

Cromartie is great play-maker and still has some gas left in his tank. He can still cover the best wide receivers coming his way well and still has a knack for getting interceptions. He had such a good season that was selected as a back up player in the 2015 NFL Pro Bowl.

Being very familiar with New York and the media having played for the Jets for a number of years, Cromartie would do well on the Giants. The best part is the Giants could land him for a short-term deal and wouldn’t necessarily have to break the bank to acquire him.

The other attractive elements are that his cousin Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, is already on the team. DRC is a great playmaker too. If the Giants sign Cromartie it would be pretty interesting in having a dynamic cousin cornerback duo on the field.

Overall, Cromartie would be a great addition to our G-MEN defense. With all the rumored offensive acquisitions from other teams in the NFL, especially in the NFC East, the Giants need to acquire a lot more depth on defense. Cromartie would address that and more thanks to his veteran leadership and ability to still get the job done.
