2015 NFL Draft: New York Giants Take Landon Collins

facebooktwitterreddit

The New York Giants traded for the Tennessee Titans’s 33rd overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft to take strong safety Landon Collins. Jerry Reese probably couldn’t stop smiling when Collins managed to fall all the way down to the second round. Reese officially has his first draft steal of 2015.

The Giants’ nabbed a first round talent in the second round. Many analysts had the Giants drafting Collins with the ninth overall pick, but the Reese decided to play it smart for once and went with an offensive lineman. This trade makes all the sense in the world for the Giants, they made a huge push for the right player.

Collins provides starting caliber talent in a very depleted Giants’ safety corps. Even though he is a rookie, he has the potential to be a game changer. I think Collins has enough talent to be the week one starter come September.

Although many would question that there has to be a reason why Collins fell this far in the first place. It all basically comes down to what positions are at the top of each teams’ to-do list. Safety probably wasn’t at the top of that list for the teams that chose in the first round. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Collins.

Collins should provide more than enough competition for his fellow safeties Cooper Taylor and Nat Berhe. Him being added to the roster also helps aid in their development by adding some much needed training camp rivalry stories.

The Giants filled two gaping holes in their roster so far with their two first draft choices. With Collins and Flowers on the roster, the Giants are starting to look like contenders in the very competitive NFC East.

Draft Grade: A +
