New York Giants: This Is Not A Rebuilding Year

The New York Giants haven’t made the postseason for three straight seasons, which isn’t new information. It’s that unavoidable truth that you try to shove in the back of your mind. Is this a rebuilding year for the Giants?

Here is the thing, I absolutely hate the phrase rebuilding year. For starters every year is a rebuilding year in the NFL. In the salary cap era it is so hard to keep the band together that teams constantly have to reload talent on their roster.

Secondly, once the season is here there is little the team can do to change, it is what it is. The general manager’s season is the offseason, barring a rare in season trade or a timely claim off of waivers, the general manager is done building the team by fall.

Finally I hate the idea that the Giants have a season to waste. The Manning era is in its final chapter. A franchise quarterback is the key ingredient in a winning football team and a franchise quarterback is hard to find. The Giants are not going to brand 2015 as a rebuilding year, the organization is sick of wasting their time with Manning at the helm.

The Giants are going to have to make this season a success with what they have. The Giants have a lot of talent that makes up for a lot of their weaknesses. The Giants have to go all in for 2015 glory.

With Manning, Odell Beckham Jr. and Victor Cruz leading the way offensively, the offense could be unstoppable. Sure there are legitimate concerns about the offensive line and subsequently the rushing attack. But the ground game just needs to be good enough to give the Giants balance.

The moral of the story is that while the Giants have their problems, they cannot afford to temper their expectations. The very idea of a rebuilding year is a losing mindset. You never know what is going to happen in the NFL, all the team can do is control what it can control.

The Giants just have to play football with a win now mentality. They just have to find their way to the playoffs and anything can happen, if any team knows this its the Giants. So no, it isn’t a rebuilding season. It is time to get back to the playoffs, no matter what.
