New York Giants: Corey Washington Draws More Praise

As the days to training camp grow closer, there’s more heat about wide receiver Corey Washington generating. He’s turning heads every chance that he gets. Most recently, he said that he took a page out of Odell Beckham’s book. Both were rookie receivers last year, but one broke out. Is it Washington’s turn to step into the limelight?

If there’s one thing that the New York Giants have an abundance of, it’s wide receivers. That’s a good thing for the team and a bad thing for Washington. He has a ton of competition to face, it won’t be easy for him to gain some starting time. His goal has to be to impress the coaches in training camp and preseason. The more he impresses with the first stringers, the more starting time that he will gain.

Washington will most likely have to compete with Preston Parker, Geremy Davis, and Marcus Harris for a roster spot. I think he wipes the floor with all of them and even challenges Rueben Randle for being the third string wide receiver. Washington seems to be really thriving in Ben McAdoo’s new offensive system, so he should use it to his advantage.

This is all very easy to say, but very hard to actually follow through with. Eli Manning even once admitted he had never heard of the school that Washington came from. Talk about one heck of an underdog. The leader of the team has no clue where you came from? That’s a pretty crazy occurrence.

Giants’ fans are crazy about this kid. I can’t count how many times I heard his name brought up on sports radio. Everyone wants to know why he didn’t see more playing time. Well, all these questions are about to be answered. As the days go on, it’s getting harder to ignore this young stud.

Washington is generating so much buzz because of all the improvements he has made since last year. He is playing football on a whole different level. The Giants organization as a whole is trying to hide it for now, but it won’t be long. The Giants could use him as a deep threat, similar to the way Beckham is used.

Many doubt that Washington will gain some valuable time playing with the starters, but I think the opposite. I think he will thrive on the fact that defenses will be worried about Beckham instead of him. That leaves him open to take control of the Giants; offense. The world is at this young man’s feet and he may not even know it yet.
