The New York Giants have acquired the services of James Jones. Jones spent one season with the Oakland Raiders after signing a three year deal with the team. For the Raiders, the deal wasn’t working out. I’m about to explain why the Giants will gladly make the Jones signing work out. Jones is still a very capable receiver as evidenced by his 73 receptions and six touchdowns in the 2014 season.

The Raiders clearly had higher expectations for Jones. Happiness is based on expectations but in this case the expectations were unrealistic in the first place. In some ways Jones had his season in 2014. 73 receptions was the highest total of his career and he was more involved with the Raiders offense than he ever was in Green Bay.

Though it is evident that he isn’t the same receiver. Jones once had a burst that made him a big play waiting to happen. At one point in his career he averaged 16.7 yards per reception and most of his career he hovered around 13 yards a catch. His average was down to 8.9 yards in 2014. Let’s take a look at the 3 big things you need to think about when it comes to this signing.
