New York Giants Sign Kicker Chris Boswell

According to multiple reports the New York Giants signed kicker, Chris Boswell yesterday. Don’t get into a panic about the Giants kicker Josh Brown, as of now it is just a leg bruise. Boswell was released from the Giants earlier this preseason.

Brown should be fine for the regular season and this is just to get the Giants through the final game of the preseason. That being said the Giants may want to examine their options at kicker just in case Brown’s prognosis changes. There isn’t a team in the league that doesn’t need a reliable field goal kicker.

Boswell isn’t a proven commodity. This is a good audition for him, though at this point just about every team will have their kicking situation figured out. Boswell needs to show the Giants that he can be counted on to put the football through the uprights if he is ever called upon again.

There is no reason to be concerned over the status of Brown at the moment. That is a very good thing because any field goal kicker who is available at this point in the preseason is available for a reason. The options the Giants would have in terms of available place kickers are very limited.

Other than Jay Feeley and Shayne Graham, two kickers in their late 30’s, there isn’t any kickers with a proven history. The Giants are just being precautionary by keeping Brown from kicking in their last preseason game. It is easy to see why such precaution is warranted.
