New York Giants: Defense Dominates In 24-10 Win

The New York Giants had a nearly perfect beginning to their battle with the Buffalo Bills. They stifled the Bills offense to a three and out (which was a common occurrence in this game) and ended up with a 3-0 lead. The Giants defensive stand set the tone from the start that the Giants brought their toughness with them to Orchard Park.

In the Giants victory they proved that they are a very good team, one that you have to keep your eye on as the season progresses. Before this game only a shootout loss to the New England Patriots blemished the Bills resume. They had dominated Andrew Luck and Ryan Tannehill in their other two games. Eli Manning wasn’t intimidated by the Bills physical defense.

The first half was a statement by the Giants. The Giants offense had 12 first downs in the first half compared to the Bills 2 earned first downs. By halftime Tyrod Taylor’s stat line embarrassingly read 6/13 36 yards and 1 touchdown. The Giants didn’t allow the Bills to get anything going. The Giants dominated the first 30 minutes of football, in the next thirty minutes they wouldn’t take their foot off the gas pedal.

Early in the third quarter the Giants had the ultimate opportunity to put the dagger into the Bills faithful’s hopes. After forcing a Bills punt from their own shadow of the goal line the Giants got great field position. After a 27 yard screen to Shane Vereen was nullified by a penalty, the Giants had a frustrating delay of game penalty. Then Manning got sacked on the next snap.

The Giants squandered the great opportunity and punted the ball deep in Bills territory. The Giants have had a second half lead in every game they have played this season and they had just one victory. It was imperative that the Giants defense didn’t let the Bills wake up.

The defense bended a little on the subsequent drive and by bended I mean they gave up 78 yards. That being said the Giants defense did not break. They forced the Bills to kick a field goal, one that Dan Carpenter missed. It was a huge win for the Big Blue defense and a painful disappointment for the Bills.

The Giants offense again failed to get any rhythm going and the Giants had to punt away the ball. Soon after the Giants were in the same predicament. They had to stop the Bills in the red zone for the second time. The defense stopped the Bills on 4th and goal.

The Giants offense really put a lot of pressure on their defense. The Giants who scored 15 points in the first half couldn’t get much going in the second half. Piles of penalties and poor play added up to a lot of punts in the second half. The Bills marched down the field one more time and the Giants defense finally gave up a score. The Giants led 24-10.

The Giants built a lead and they protected it the majority of the ball game. The Bills were held to just 3 points until the Bills scored a fourth quarter touchdown. The Giants defense was asked to do an awful lot in this game. The Giants defense did made this day very frustrating for Buffalo. The offense did enough to get the 24-10 victory.
