Victor Cruz was a special player for the New York Giants. It looks like his incredible career could be over. It seems like the perfect time to remember how great he was and to thank him for all the wonderful memories. This is a tribute to Victor Cruz.

Cruz’s career started in the most unlikely fashion. He was an undrafted free agent. Cruz quickly showed the Giants that they were right to take a chance on him. In 2011 he was a breakout sensation. He put flavor in every one of his 9 touchdown receptions by salsa dancing in the end zone.

What made Cruz special was that he was a perfect fit for the Giants. Operating mostly from the slot, Cruz had a special connection with Eli Manning. If ever there was a quarterback-wide receiver combination that was perfect it was Manning and Cruz. Fans fell in love with Cruz’s charismatic charm.

If this is the end of his career it was a good run. Cruz caught a total of 264 receptions for 3,963 yards and 24 touchdowns. He had 54 plays over 20 yards and 16 plays that went over 40. We got 3 really good seasons from Cruz in a very physical sport where injuries ruin many careers too early.

One of the most important things about Cruz is that he proved the world wrong. He was passed up by every NFL team in the NFL draft. He was an undrafted free agent. He came into the league with no expectations on his shoulders and he became a star. Hopefully we see Cruz back in a Giants uniform next season. If we don’t and this is the end, it was certainly fun while it lasted.
