John Breitenbach of Pro Football Focus released his shortlist of 3 quarterback sleepers in this year’s draft class. With the 2016 NFL Draft approaching, the New York Giants need to address a few positions, but hardly anyone has projected a quarterback. Should Big Blue use a pick on one of these sleepers?

The Giants are all set at quarterback. For now. Eli Manning hasn’t missed a start in his career and Ryan Nassib appears to be developing into a quality back-up. But, Nassib is entering the final year of his rookie contract and has implied he wants to be a starter. With Eli believing he could player another five years, it’s highly likely that Nassib is traded or signs elsewhere when he hits free agency next offseason.

While many Giants fans would agree that the draft picks used on quarterbacks in years past – minus Ryan Nassib – were a waste. Rhett Bomar in 2009 and Andre Woodson in 2008. Bomar’s slot could’ve been used on tight ends James Casey, or tackles Garrett Reynolds or Jamon Meredith, or punter Thomas Morestead. Woodson’s slot could’ve been used on linebackers Joe Mays or Andy Studebaker, or wide receivers Pierre Garcon or Stevie Johnson.

Who? Sure, most of those names are not household, but had the Giants drafted Morestead, you can be sure that DeSean Jackson doesn’t return the game-winning punt that effectively ended the Giants 2010 season. If the Giants nabbed Garcon or Johnson, who knows how high-powered their offense would’ve been?

But, selecting a quarterback in this year’s draft would be wise. It would be insurance, trade bait, and maybe even the heir to Eli’s throne as face of the franchise. Let’s take a look at Breitenbach’s sleepers and see if any are a fit for the G-Men…
