Free agent running back Adrian Peterson is making it public knowledge that he’s intrigued by Jerry Reese and the New York Giants.

The New York Giants have a void to fill at running back after parting ways with veteran Rashad Jennings. Most fans hope to see Paul Perkins receive a heavier workload in his second NFL season, but the need for depth is undeniable.

The Giants have been tied to free agent running back Adrian Peterson on more than one occasion and his latest comments imply that where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

Peterson spent the past 10 seasons as a member of the Minnesota Vikings. Now a free agent, however, Peterson is making no qualms about how willing he is to move on from Minnesota and play for another team.

In a recent post to his verified Twitter account, Peterson continued to publicly tease his future by commenting on the Giants’ offseason moves.

This could be a ploy to get Minnesota to pay him more out of fear that he’ll be leaving, but it could also be a dose of honesty.

Peterson is one of the greatest running backs of all-time. He’s amassed upwards of 11,000 career rushing yards, is closing in on 100 career rushing touchdowns, and has one of seven 2,000-yard rushing seasons in NFL history.

Based on that alone, it would be hard to blame Giants fans—nor the organization itself—for having interest in acquiring Peterson.

Having said that, Peterson is also going to turn 32 years of age in March and tore his meniscus during the 2016 NFL regular season

Based on his age and the multiple knee injuries he’s suffered, it would be fair for the Giants to shy away from Peterson. Based on his track record of being a physical phenom who can overcome any obstacle thrown his way, however, it would also be reasonable to give him a chance.

Coming off of a 2016 NFL regular season during which the Giants ranked No. 29 in rushing yards and No. 32 in rushing touchdowns, there’s no denying that help is needed.
