Okay so far I was 50% right in my article “NFC East First Three Rounds”. I did make the obvious give me pick of RG3 to the Redskins but at the same time I correctly predicted that Andy Reid would trade up to get Mississippi State DT Fletcher Cox.

Now I was totally blindsided by Jerry Jones moving up to the 6th pick to get LSU CB Morris Claiborne for his new and improved Cowboys secondary. In my defense this is Jerry Jones, the most unpredictable Owner/General Manager in the NFL. Claiborne is a 6″ tall cover corner. The only knock on him is that he is a reluctant tackler enabling WR like Victor Cruz and Desean Jackson to potentially get a lot of yards after catch (YAC).

I had the Giants picking Boise State RB Doug Martin but in this trade happy Draft (so far 9 trades in the First Round), the Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded into the 31st spot and grabbed Martin. This left the Giants with the next best RB on their board which was Virginia Tech RB David Wilson. The difference between Martin and Wilson is quite simply this, Martin is a consistent back where as Wilson is an explosive back that can break a big play at any given time in a game.

All in all I am now officially against Mock Drafts because with the new Rookie pay scale, trades are free flowing and teams in the upper half of the draft are no longer concern if “we can afford to pay this player”.

It seems every year there is at least one team out of the NFC east that all the “experts” choose as their hot pick to be in the Superbowl. Last year it was the under achieving “dream team” Philadelphia Eagles, and early on this year it doesn’t seem any different. This is an extremely talented team. Just look at the roster. They were in the top ten in ppg, ypg, passing ypg and running ypg. And in the offensive happy NFL, that is impressive.

This year probably wont be any different. Andy Reid is still one of the top 10 coaches in the league, he just needs to adjust a bit more and break from the game plan if the run is working. Their keys to 2012 are, have a positive turnover ratio and keep Vick upright in the pocket. He took a lot of punishment last year. While some of it was due to his running, he seemed to take more hard hits behind the line of scrimmage as opposed to down the field. And if DeSean Jackson can stay focused and Vick can get him the ball enough to keep him happy, combined with Macklin, Celek and the late season emergence of Riley Cooper, look out. McCoy is extremely dangerous out of the backfield both running and catching the ball. And with good defensive ends and a very good secondary all they need is some solid play from their LB’s and their wide 9 defense could be dominating against a pass happy NFL. Barring them believing the press clipping and shooting themselves in the foot again, the Eagles will be in the hunt for the division title.

The defending Superbowl Champion N.Y. Giants will only be better this year and will be in the hunt for the division title with the Eagles. They have the best Coach and QB in the division. Their receiving Duo of Cruz and Nicks is top notch, and could be the best in the league. Even with the loss of Kareem McKenzie they will still have a good offensive line and have already shored it up with the addition of Locklear and they will get their 2011 draft pick James Brewer back.

Their defense is already better with the emergence of JPP and the return of Terrell Thomas. Keith Rivers could be the answer at LB if he can stay healthy and live up to his pre draft potential. The only real question mark is at the RB position. Where will the replacement for Jacobs come from. It will probably be a combination of what they have and possibly someone from the draft. A legit run at the division is well within reach.

Last year at this time all we heard about was Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys. 9 months later all we heard were excuses about why the Cowboys had imploded. Bottom line has been and still is, they are a soft team. Romo is a good QB but seems to fold under the pressure of the big game. They have a good front 7 on defense, but after that it is just a ton of questions. The running game as well as the receiving corp were extremely unpredictable and mostly ineffective. They did have some big plays, but they were inconsistent. The secondary will still be weak and get burned on a regular basis. They still could be a 9-7 team, but with the Giants and Eagles being in double digit wins I believe Dallas will come up short of the playoffs.

The Washington Redskins will be better than they have been in recent years. With the probable drafting of RG3 they will have an immediate improvement on offense. Unfortunately after Santana Moss and Roy Helu on offense and Brian Orakpo on defense, there is not much else to speak of. Shanahan will probably have this team over achieve in the first part of the season, but they will come back to earth again down the road. The Redskins will not be much better than 7-9.

As the Giants prepare to entertain their conference rival Eagles at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands for a Sunday night nationally televised game, questions abound. One may evaluate the numbers, attach metrics to tendencies, and look at rankings in various categories to address these questions but I am not sure it will be of much good. For these 2 teams really don’t like each other and there is ample

MetLife Stadium, Time to make good memories

history to fortify that abhorrence. No, I think a dispensing with all the statistics is in order, for this game will come down to who makes fewer mistakes and imposes their will over the other. Let’s try to isolate some of the questions regarding this game.

The Eagles run the ball better than anyone else, gaining almost 173 yards on the ground. Simply because Michael Vick is not expected to play does not negate the Eagles ability to move the ball on the ground. Vince Young is a capable runner and poses a physical presence. LeSean McCoy is one of the most exciting running backs in football. He runs with a style reminiscent of Barry Sanders which raises big red flags when imagining the challenge the Giants will have in stopping him. Couple McCoy’s outstanding running ability with the undermanned linebacker unit and it is time to pour a double for yourself. It will be interesting to see if Mark Herzlich is ready for prime time, for the speed of the game may be more than he is currently able to match. I remember watching A.J. Hawk and Clay Matthews in their first few games some years ago and they struggled. They also were not coming off a life threatening disease that robbed their bodies of muscle and substance. So in view of these facts I invoke the Michel Jordan Doctrine: You can’t stop him you can only hope to contain him. And containing McCoy will be key if the Giants are to ostensibly end the season for these dirty birds from 90 miles down the turnpike.

Every week we like to do a question and answer session with the editor of the enemy’s site here on Fansided.com. Here is part one of my conversation with “Inside the Iggles”.

1. The Giants came into the 2011 season as an afterthought, which is quite a feat for a New York team. What’s been the biggest reason the Giants have exceeded expectations?

Coaching. The media loves to call Tom Coughlin old and out of touch. If you have ever met the man, old and irrelevant are the last thoughts that come to your mind. He is always prepared, and has developed a depth on this team that many thought didn’t exist. Also the development of young players such as Victor Cruz, Jake Ballard, and Kevin Boothe to name a few.

2. Brandon Jacobs continues to be a perplexing figure. He wants the ball more, he wants out of New York, he wants to win for his teammates. He seems to always have something to say. What’s the overall impression of Jacobs in New York right now?

As Fans, we are tired of Brandon talking. In New York it is not possible to say something off the cuff and get away with it. He really needs to just play for his teammates, and be productive. I feel that Brandon suffers from never having a mentor in this league. The leaders on the offensive team when he arrived were not model citizens, and he has never really learned how to be a pro and just play the game.

3. This is a game the Giants should win. Is there any one player or aspect of playing the Eagles that scares you heading into Sunday night’s game?

I am not sure we “Should” win this game. A division game in the NFC EAST is usually a tough affair, and a toss up at best. What scares me about the Eagles? Their desperation, their overall offensive talent, and an improving defense that has a lot to prove.

4. It’s been well-documented the Giants have a brutal schedule down the stretch. How do you see the NFC East playing out over the season’s final seven weeks?

I am actually doing an article documenting the results and details of each of our opponents games for the next seven weeks. I think that IF the Giants can win this week, they put themselves in a position to control their own fate, and that is all you can ask in the NFL.

5. This game is billed as a must-win for the Eagles, but it isn’t. They’re screwed. It’s a much bigger game for the Giants because it sets the tone as they get set to duel with Dallas over the final month. Who do you like in this game and why?

I still like the Giants match-up against your defense, and a maybe less than 100% Michael Vick. Le Sean McCoy is the x factor as our run defense has been less than stellar this year to date. As always, this will be a dog-fight to the finish!

When I heard Sunday that Desean Jackson would be inactive I was a little shocked. I know there is a contract dispute looming and that D. Jax has not been a model citizen this year. First things first… do you think proving you are unreliable is the best way to get a raise and have the owner try his best to keep you happy? Probably not the best tactic on Jackson’s part. Then I thought of Andy Reid’s actions of benching him for an entire game. Most coaches take actions such as not starting a player, or sitting him for a half to prove their point of authority. My belief is Reid wanted an angry Jackson ready to perform at his top level against the Division Rival and Division leading Giants this week. I believe Andy thought he could sit Jackson against the “lesser” opponent in the Arizona Cardinals, and have a beast ready to unleash against the Giants Sunday Night. What Reid forgot was the same thing he seems to have forgotten when building this team….he has no defense. The Eagles have a Net points differential of 17. With an offense built around the likes of Vick, McCoy, Jackson, Maclin, Avant, and Celek they have managed to outscore their opponents by just 17 points. With a record of 3-6 the Eagles must now run the table to have any hope of post-season play. If this was Reid’s plan, it failed miserably as has his entire team over the first 9 games.

In a recent interview, Andy Reid gave his perspective on the upcoming game against the New York Giants. The interview seemed devoted to the pursuit of details regarding Michael Vick’s health issues and status for next Sunday’s game. However, the big guy couldn’t help but chime in on his thoughts about the Big Blue defense.

“I think they’ve given you about every look they could possibly give you over the last couple of games”

With the Philadelphia Eagles losing this past week’s game, where Michael Vick was booed off of the field, they have nothing to relish in but the days of yore. The New York Giants, of course, have the day off to relish in their victory over the St. Louis Rams last night.

It sounds to me like Andy Reid is currently concerned about what he already knows about the Big Blue Wrecking Crew. What he doesn’t know just might keep him awake at night. Let the battle of the Turnpike Fandom begin!

Don’t forget to—> —> for Giants/NFL news, updates, trivia and more!

What do you get when you cross an Eagle with a Jackass? Why, DeSean Jackson, of course. Andy Reid will more than likely be bald after the offseason and lockout come to a close. Having to sit back and listen to the inordinately immature remarks that continue to emanate from his juvenile players can only leave him pulling every single strand of hair out of his head. The latest bird to tweet his feathers off is none other than DeSean Jackson.

With Jackson, it really isn’t a matter of if he will flap his gums. It is a matter of when. DeSean has been quite taken with himself since last season and has been quite vocal about it. Alas, like many Eagles, he just doesn’t know when to keep his beak shut.
