Thought I would leave this one for the weekend when people are busy with other things. The Giants have been blessed with some magnificent fullbacks in their history starting for me with Maurice Carthon, then Charles Way, and most recently Madison Hedgecock.

The new addition to this group is one Henry Hynoski. Once Henry got comfortable with his assignments, he really flourished in the post season. The combination of vicious blocker, and a soft hands pass catcher, Henry might be here a while. This maturing of Hynoski, under the tutelage of the full coaching staff, as well as the aforementioned Charles Way who still works for the team, has given the Giants the ability to have Bear Pascoe move back to Tight End and H Back. The flexibility of these players and their multitude of skills gives the Giants depth on the offensive side of the ball with a minimum number of players.

No need to sign a free agent or use a draft choice here. Henry has it all under control.

Before the Giants heartbreaking loss to the Eagles on Sunday Night, I was able to talk to Giants hybrid FB/TE — Bear Pascoe about his take on the Niners game that had a special meaning to him.

We also explored the use of Twitter and team bonding between the Giants players, his expectations for the rest of the year, and advice to his Alma mater Fresno State.

What was it like going against the team that drafted you in 2009?

I was excited going back to San Fran. In a way I felt like I had something to prove. Off the field, it was great to have my whole family and several friends in attendance. I wish the outcome would have been different, but there were some good things to build on from that game.

Pascoe during his 49ers tenure

It seems as though the rookies and the vets on the team are getting along quite well through the use of Twitter – Can you explain the dynamic with the team currently?

We have a great group of rookies, majority of them are playing every game on special teams, on offense or defense. I’m new to Twitter (@BearPascoe) but it is great because it has allowed some of us to connect with fans and have some fun with it.

Pascoe & Ballard- The Giants Resident Tight Ends

What are your expectations for the rest of the year?

The rest of this season my expectations are to continue to get better as a player whether it be at Fullback or Tight End. As a team we plan to take one week at a time.

Your alma mater Fresno State just came off a 3 game losing streak – Do you have any advice to the guys on the team?

When I was at Fresno we had a rough season in 2006. Actually, in 2006, Coach Hill took the dogs off our helmets and made us earn them back. If I could tell them anything it would be to stay a team. There are a lot of outside influences right now but if they stay a fist and never stop battling they will work through this rough spot.

– Pascoe and the Giants are currently 6-4 on their way to a Monday night game against the Saints. Tied for 1st place atop the NFC East with the Dallas Cowboys, the upcoming game is crucial to the Giants success for the rest of the year–

*I would like to thank Bear Pascoe and Kim Staninger for taking the time to give some insight into the Giants. *

The hype for this Sunday’s matchup between the Super Bowl XLII rivals has begun. The New York Giants make their way up north to face the New England Patriots in Gillette Stadium. New England are undefeated at home, so far this season (3-0). In fact, the Pats have not lost a home game since November 30, 2008, against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Both teams are coming off of mediocre performances. The Patriots offense looked subpar last week. Their defense has been struggling all season long, giving up the most yards per game in all of the NFL. The Giants offense looked confused at times, but Eli Manning delivered an electric performance. Their defense struggled all game long, but came up with some very big plays to ensure the win, albeit from one of the worst teams in the NFL. Big Blue are certainly capable of beating the Patriots this season. But can they do it against a team who are 20-0, at home, since December 16, 2008? Let’s hear what Tom Coughlin and Bill Belichick have to say.

One of the hot topics in Giants universe the past week has been whether the Giants will upgrade their tight end position after Week 1. Currently Jake Ballard is listed as the starting tight end and this has not been sitting easy with most fans.

After Week 1, there is no guaranteed contract for veterans, and Donald Lee fits this mold. This is also the reason why the Giants have yet to sign a linebacker, and plan to after Week 1.

Donald Lee is a 9 year veteran who has spent the bulk of his career in Green Bay. His most successful year came in 2007 when he had 575 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Clearly Lee’s best years are behind him, but he would be an excellent addition to the Giants in a veteran capacity. He could mentor Ballard/Pascoe/Beckum, and establish a rapport with Eli for the year. Eli always tends to use tight ends as a security blanket, and Lee certainly would be up for the challenge.

Until then the Giants will have to test out the Ballard/Pascoe/Beckum trio against the Redskins and further evaluate from there.

Last week I was able to catch up with Giants and former Fresno State tight end, Bear Pascoe. We chatted about his nickname, life without football, and his expectations for the upcoming season.

Pascoe is entering his 3rd season with the New York Giants and is currently in a battle for the starting tight end position. He is competing against Jake Ballard, Daniel Coats, and Travis Beckum.

Pascoe, a former 6th round pick by the 49ers in 2009, is ready to prove he has what it takes to be a starter in the NFL.

Question: Little known fact, but your real name is actually McKenna. How did you earn the nickname of Bear?

Bear: There are lots of stories I could share with you, but the truth is when I was born I was very large and I was always the biggest person in class. It was just a nickname my parents gave to me when I was a little kid because I was bigger than everybody else and I was just a “bear” of a kid.

Question: If you weren’t a football player, what would you be doing?

Bear: I have a degree in Agricultural Education and with that I could teach or run a farming outfit. I grew up on a big cattle ranch, so there is a very good chance I would be cowboying, training horses, and trying to make it in the rodeo world.

Question: What are your expectations for this upcoming season?

Bear: This season I am focused on earning a starting position and doing everything I can to help this team win games. The more games we win, the farther we go.

Question: How was your relationship with now Oakland Raider, Kevin Boss?

Bear: I had a really good relationship with Kevin Boss and still do. He is a great guy and one of my good friends. I wish him all the best out in Oakland and I know he will do great.

Question: Do you see a bowl game for your alma mater Fresno State this year?

Bear: Oh yeah every year! I know they have a young team, but Coach Hill will get them in shape for sure. Anybody, Anywhere, Anytime.

Question: What is the greatest moment in your life to this date?

Bear: That is kind of tough because God has blessed me. I would say winning my first truck in team roping when I was 15, the day I was drafted, playing in my first game for the Giants, and my first catch in a game are all great moments. I know there are some experiences I am forgetting, but in every area of my life I have had an experience that has changed my life in some way.

*A special thanks to Bear Pascoe and Kim Staninger for allowing me to take their time for this interview. *
