Perrilloux Waived from Giants Practice Squad…. Again

Poor Ryan Perrilloux. With the slew of injuries the Giants have been attacked by the past few weeks, roster changes had to occur.

With these changes came the weekly occurence of Perrilloux being waived in order for a roster spot to open up (This weeks winner: Isaiah Stanback)

Perrilloux’s history with the Giants is as follows:

- On January 13, 2011, Perrilloux was signed to a reserve/future contractwith the New York Giants.

- On September 3, 2011, he was cut from the Giants’ roster, but was re-signed the same day to the practice squad.

- He was released from the practice squad on September 17 for the first time, and was re-signed one week later on September 23.

- Perrilloux was waived again on September 28.

- He was re-signed to the practice squad on October 8, but released again on October 12.

- Perrilloux was re-signed again on October 17.

- He was released from the practice squad again on November 2, 2011. He was then signed to the practice squad on November 11, 2011.

And as stated earlier, he has been cut again today– November 30th, 2011. Will Perrilloux be back again? Pretty soon there will be Vegas odds on the whole matter.

Cut Day Update: Weatherford Wins Punting Job, Other Cuts Made

According to NJ.com and his agent, Steve Weatherford will be the new punter for the New York Giants. While he does not have the raw strength of Matt Dodge, his accuracy and numbers were slightly better over the seemingly-improved second year player. It’s a tough decision to give up on a young guy so quickly, but remember that Jeff Feagles was the punter prior to 2010. The Giants value experience in this position and, like me, they are probably not convinced that Dodge’s newfound accuracy and confidence will translate in a game that matters.

Weatherford also has the added bonus of being a good holder. This probably means bad news for Sage Rosenfels, who was already on the outside looking in because he missed most of preseason due to illness and injury, and stands to make significantly more money this season than David Carr. Overall, I am happy with this move. The Giants needed to address problems on special teams and I think this will help the rest of the unit have more confidence in their punting game.

Matt Dodge is reportedly being shopped around for a trade, he has not been officially “cut” yet.

Speaking of an improved special teams, we officially no longer need to worry that Darius Reynaud will be returning kicks. He has been waved along with Dodge and 11 other players. The current cut list is below. It seems that, for the time being at least, bubble players Henry Hynoski and Mark Herzlich are poised to make the team.

Bad News Bears: The Chester Taylor Saga

3rd Down RB Chester Taylor was reportedly told he’d be released by the Chicago Bears this morning, and then inexplicably, wasn’t.

The Chicago Sun Times has the crazy details of perhaps the biggest misunderstanding of the 2011 offseason:

I was told this morning that the Bears had informed running back Chester Taylor that he would be released. Later on, his agent Ken Sarnoff posted this on his Twitter account: “Lovie Smith told Chester Taylor this morning that he Is being released.

Now, at 1:10 p.m., Sarnoff just wrote: “Here’s a first for me – the Bears just called me and said they have NOT released Chester. “He did talk with Lovie though…misunderstanding?”

Here’s what I think happened — Lovie wanted to cut him as advertised, but the front office refused and said they gave him $7 million in guaranteed money last year, and had to see if they could get some ROI before they cut him. Good luck with all that, Chicago.
