GIANTS Playoff Implications: A loss by the Dallas Cowboys will give the Giants, at the minimum a one game lead at the end of the day on Sunday. A win by the Dallas Cowboys along with a Giants loss will result in a tie in the NFC. The Bengals are the better team and given the recent events in Dallas, they should win the game. However, Dallas is hungry and has a revived hope since the Giants stubbed their toe last week in Washington.

Cowboys 10

The Cowboys and Eagles were basically even statistics wise at the end of the first quarter. The Cowboys ran 15 plays to the Eagles 14 while the Eagles out-gained the Cowboys 97 yards to 82 yards. There were no turnovers and the time possession was nearly even with the Cowboys having the ball 7 minutes and 54 seconds and the Eagles had the ball for 7 minutes and 6 seconds. The lone scoring play came from a Bryce Brown 10 yard touchdown run with 5:44 remaining in the first quarter.

The second quarter started with the Dallas Cowboys getting a 39 yard field goal with a little over 13 minutes left in the quarter. With 6:11 remaining in the second quarter, Brown scored from five yards out for his second TD of the game and put the Eagles up 14-3. The Cowboys had a classic two minute drive to tighten up the score to 14-10 when Romo hit Witten for a big play down to the one and then Murray ran it in for a TD. The Eagles came back with a quick 45 second drive to set up a field goal from 43 yards out. That made the score 17-10. The second quarter stats ended up about even thanks to the Cowboys two minute drive. However, the Eagles had dominated the play up to that point.

The New York Giants continue their November slump by pathetically losing to the Cincinnati Bengals 31-13. Eli Manning has not been showing up as of late and the Giants have lost two in a row entering the bye week. The Giants have lost 21 of their last 34 November games. A staggering number in the Tom Coughlin era.

After the beat down in Cincinnati, the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles faced each other in an NFC East showdown to see who could gain some ground on the Giants.

The Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo, has had the opposite of the Giants luck in November. Over his career, he has posted a 20-3 record in November, which is a .870 winning percentage. He is the NFL’s version of Mr. November.

Romo had a good performance, completing 19 out of 26 passes for 209 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Cowboys as a whole did not turn the ball over once this game. A modern day miracle for this squad.

The Cowboy’s defense knocked Michael Vick out of the game early. He left the game in the second quarter due to a concussion. Rookie Nick Foles filled in for Vick but could not rally the Eagles in the second half. The Cowboys won 38-23.

Although Romo has a great record in November, he is terrible in the months that count. He is 10-17 in December/January games when the Giants seem to always get hot during those same months. Coincidence? I think not.

The Giants dodged a few bullets today to take a commanding lead in the NFC East. The Giants now stand at 6-2, and 2-2 in the division, while all the other teams have just 3 wins.

The Giants held the Cowboys to 19 yards rushing on 17 attempts today. The were the recipient of 6 turnovers as mentioned in the title. They did not convert those turnovers into enough points, and therefore needed to hold on to win in the end. With just 10 seconds remaining the Cowboys scored what they thought was the winning touchdown, however Dez Bryant’s finger tips landed out of bounds after making the catch. The Giants now improve to 4-0 all time in the Cowboys new Billion Dollar stadium…We want to take the time here to thank Jerry Jones for building it.

The Giants have some areas to work on, but beating a desperate team at home today shows how good this team can be. The fact that they actually lost a 23 point lead is alarming in itself, but it shows you need to take advantage of your opportunities, and you must play a full 60 minutes. This game wrang every ounce of emotion out of both teams and the fans for the full 60 minutes. The Giants did run for 103 yards on 28 attempts with most of them coming exactly when they needed it. With 4 sacks on defense and 4 interceptions they certainly played well enough to win, and also to serve notice they are still a resilient team.

Join us tomorrow at Noon Eastern when Seth Everett joins us for the weekly re-cap.

The Giants played a complete game…..in the first quarter. Forcing three Dallas turnovers, and leading 13-0. The Giants offense was steady and efficient while staying balanced despite not having a great numbers in the running game. A Dez Bryant fumble to begin the second quarter led to another Giants Field Goal when Martellus Bennett dropped a ball on the Dallas one.

The Giants defense then decided to take matters into their own hands when Jason Pierre Paul, who seems to love to play in Dallas, interceted a Tony Romo screen pass, and return it for a touchdown…23-0 just 38 seconds into the 2nd quarter.

The Giants did make one huge mistake when Ahmad Bradshaw fumbled near mid-field halfway through the 2nd quarter, but Tony Romo looks lost. He seems like he and his receivers have no idea what they are doing. At 10:38 in the second period he was 6/15 for 55 yards with 3 interceptions…a rating of 11.1 The Cowboy defense has actually played well or the score could be much worse.

The Cowboys finally settled down a bit and had a nice drive for a touchdown with 5:22 remaining in the half. The Cowboys have made some changes, and are starting to feature their standards like Jason Witten instead of the inconsistent Dez Bryant, who has been removed from punt return duty. This game is far from over because of the play of the Cowboy defense, and the Giants must stay aggressive.

The Cowboys will receive the 2nd half kickoff

The Eagles have lost….The Redskins have lost…The Giants face the Cowboys for the second time this season, and the results should be different from the first encounter. With a win today the Giants will have evened their record in the division, and will take a nice lead in the NFC East.

The Giants obviously did not play their best ball on opening night, a game that has been re-visited many times. The Giants were flat on that Wednesday night in September, and they were also missing some key elements. They have Prince Amukamara playing in the place of Justin Tryon now. Michael Coe has been replaced by Jayron Hosley, and Hakeem Nicks has been practicing for the last two weeks, and appears healthy again.

The Cowboys are now the team missing some key players. Center Phil Costa is out for a while. De aArco Murray, who ran wild on the Giants in the previous meeting is also out. Also Sean Lee their leading tackler from the line backer position is gone for the season.

Look for Eli and the Giants to play as well as they usually do down in Texas this afternoon. The match-ups this time are more favorable for the GMen, an they should take full advantage.

Loo for a halftime update here at GMenHQ, as well as a complete post game wrap up.

Week 8 and it’s already time in the season to head into Texas to the most obnoxious stadium in the nation, Jerry Jones’ $1.2 billion dollar Cowboys’ kingdom. Maybe it’s the price tag of the stadium and all the hype surrounding it that has caused our New York Giants to be undefeated in Arlington, but either way the Giants winning streak can definitely continue this Sunday. In the scheme of the schedule Dallas really shouldn’t be that big of a worry for the Gmen when Pittsbrugh and Green Bay are just around the corner. (more…)

Coming off their bye week, the Dallas Cowboys looked to rebound strong from their embarrassing loss at home against the Chicago Bears. Luckily for the Giants, they failed miserably.

The Cowboys were going up against one of the best teams in the league, the Baltimore Ravens.

Overall, the Cowboys outplayed the Ravens in this game. They had possession of the ball for over 40 minutes of the game but their time management was beyond awful. Tony Romo and the offense took their time with each play and it ended up being costly. Almost each snap of the ball was with one second left on the play clock.

Dallas had a total of 481 yards against a banged up Baltimore defense. Baltimore took some serious loses during this game. The cornerbacks Ladarius Webb and Jimmy Smith, along with defensive tackle Haloti Ngata and legendary middle linebacker Ray Lewis all left the game with injuries.

Even though the Ravens were outplayed, they never lost the lead in the second half. In the fourth quarter, Dallas scored during their final drive and attempted to tie the game up with a 2-point conversion, but failed. The touchdown made the score 31-29.

Out of desperation, the Cowboys went with the onside kick. Luckily, they recovered.

Dallas had the ball on their own 46 and after an incomplete pass; Baltimore was charged with defensive pass interference. The penalty moved the Cowboys up to the Baltimore 34. Romo completed a 1-yard pass to move them slightly closer.

With six seconds left on the clock, Dan Bailey lined up for the game winning 51-yard field goal but missed wide left to give Baltimore the victory, 31-29.

This game just goes to show that the Cowboys can play with the best of them, but when it comes down to closing, they just can’t seal the deal.

With the Philadelphia Eagles defeating the New York Giants on Sunday night, the Dallas Cowboys had the chance to show the world that they could possibly be better than the defending champs with a win over a very good Chicago Bears team. Fortunately, for us New Yorkers, all they showed was how inconsistent of a team they really are.

Monday Night Football was supposed to be a great matchup between two of the league’s best…. Instead, the Bears exposed and embarrassed the Cowboys.

The game was scoreless until the second quarter when Tony Romo threw one of his five interceptions on the night. Charles Tillman picked it off and ran it back for a 25 yard interception return. Romo answered back quickly with a 10 yard touchdown pass to Miles Austin to make the game close before halftime.

Jay Cutler had a strong second half, throwing both of his touchdowns on the night during and ending the game going 18-24 with 275 yards. Romo was not as lucky. He threw another pick for six in the 3rd quarter and was eventually taken out of the game at the end of the 4th for former Bear’s quarterback, Kyle Orton.

Romo ended the game going 31-43 with 307 yards with one touchdown and five interceptions. His quarterback rating was a pathetic 14.2!

The Cowboy’s running game was also pathetic, getting only 24 yards out of running back DeMarco Murray. Murray started the season off strong against the Giants, but hasn’t provided anything since.

The only positive the Cowboys got out of this game was tight end Jason Witten’s coming out party. He finally woke up and caught 13 passes for 112 yards and one touchdown.

After a great start to the season, the Cowboy’s are starting to look like their usually choke artist selves. If they focused on football rather than opening Victoria Secret stores in the stadium, maybe they would be atop the NFC East.

The Giants didn’t get off to the start they were hoping for as they fall to the Dallas Cowboys 24-17 in the season opener at MetLife Stadium.

Tony Romo and Kevin Ogletree had their way with the Giants secondary tonight. The Cowboys passing game definitely opened things up for Murray and the running game which would begin to wear down the Giants defense.

Demarco Murray, 20 yards carries for 131 yards … after a slow start, the Cowboys running game went into another gear.

Kevin Ogletree came up huge tonight for the Cowboys. 8 catches 114 yards, 2 tds

The story tonight was how comfortable Tony Romo looked running the offense for the Cowboys.

Eli Manning didn’t throw any interceptions tonight, however it was basically an uphill battle for him and the Giants offense throughout the second half.

The secondary already banged up takes another hit … Cornerback Michael Coe had to leave the game in the third quarter with a hamstring injury. Coe started in place of the injured Prince Amukamara.

The Giants defense didn’t play well tonight. The defense had a chance to stop Dallas and get the ball back for their offense late in the 4th quarter however could not get it done. …. The pass rush wasn’t there and Romo had plenty of time in the pocket to hit his receivers. The secondary is a patchwork job right now and unless the Giants can get healthy in a hurry they may struggle this season. Their one consistent starter at cornerback Corey Webster was burned on plays by Dez Bryant and Ogletree.

Penalties … Dallas had 13 for 84 yards.

Martellus Bennett had an impressive debut for the Giants tonight. 4 catches for 40 yards, 1 TD

Victor Cruz … 3 big dropped passes tonight. A False start and called for an illegal block. Cruz had a long night out there.

David Wilson didn’t have the rookie debut he was hoping for tonight. Wilson only carried twice for 4 yards. The fumble he had in the first quarter may have played a factor in how much he saw the football after that.

The Giants are going to have to tighten up that secondary as best they can going forward. Their really going to need Amukamara to be ready to play in week 2.

What’s Next?

Week 2 at home for Tampa Bay. Head coach Tom Coughlin is going to have his work cut out for him this upcoming week as the Giants are going to have this shake this loss off quickly and be ready to go against the Bucs.

The New York Giants are set to open up their season September 5th, vs. divisional rival, Dallas. However, the Cowboys may be coming to New York, without one of their best weapons, pro bowl tight end, Jason Witten.

Witten suffered an injury to his spleen during the Cowboys first preseason game against Oakland, less than a week ago.

It’s unclear what Witten’s status will be for the opener, but he is out for the remainder of the pre-season.

“It’s a very serious injury and we’re really taking this thing day by day,” Garrett said. “He has to be very still and idle for the next week to 10 days, so you won’t see him out here on the practice field. He won’t play in the game this week or next week. We’ve just got to make sure he heals as well as possible, as quickly as possible.”

The hit, in which Witten supposedly was injured on, looked like an ordinary football play. It certainly wasn’t something you would sit back and think ‘Witten could be out for the year’.

The Giants have taken notice too. DE Justin Tuck, on a phone interview, wished his NFC foe a speedy recovery, just after week 1.

“You definitely don’t want to wish for anything but the best for your opponents in the NFL. Jason’s been a staple in that offense in the NFL. We do wish him a speedy recovery. (Pause) Hopefully it comes the week after we play them.” Tuck said.

As if Metlife Stadium wasn’t going to be hard enough to play in. Now, with a receiving core, already decimated by injuries and domestic violence’s, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys could have an even tougher time “beating the Giants asses!”

In Super Bowl XLII, Burress caught a game-winning touchdown to help the Giants beat the Patriots.

Plaxico Burress found himself in trouble win when he shot himself in the leg while at a nightclub on Novemver 29, 2008. He was sentenced to two years in prison for violating gun laws in New York in September 2009 . Burress pleaded guilty to a lesser firarms charge.

After being released three months early for good behavior, he signed with the Jets for the 2011 season. He scored eight touchdowns, 612 yards and 45 receptions. He tied the team high for TDs and receptions.

Recently there were rumors circulating that Burress would be signing with the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys organization denies any internal conversations about bringing Burress to Dallas.

With questions swirling around the Dallas Cowboys depth at Wide Receiver, it sounds like the team has reached out to former New York Giant wide out Plaxico Burress.

Burress’ phone hasn’t rung much this off-season, coming off his first year back in the NFL after being charged with two felony weapon counts, and serving jail time. He hasn’t generated any interest in the free agent market after the one-year deal he signed with the New York Jets expired.

Apparently, until now.

Multiple sources have indicated that Dallas and agent Drew Rosenhaus are engaging in early talks about Burress signing with the Cowboys.

Dallas lost some depth when WR Laurent Robinson left via free agency to join the Jacksonville Jaguars signing a 5-year, $32.5 million contract. The Cowboys’ best receiver Miles Austin is again showing up in the headlines with some injury issues, currently battling a hamstring strain. Those headlines though, are still better than the ones his teammate Dez Bryant has made as of late. The troubled receiver was recently in the news (again), this time for having some physical altercation with his mother.

Although owner Jerry Jones has shot down any rumor, dealing with the Cowboys and Burress, it seems unlikely they wouldn’t at least pick up a phone.

Burress, who is set to turn 35 on August 12th, is certainly past the prime of his career. However, he is still a serious threat in the red zone. Last year he tied Santonio Holmes with a team high 8 receiving TDs. With Romo, Witten and either Austin or Bryant (or both) Burress wont gather the attention he did in New York (for either the Jets or Giants).

A potential deal would make sense for both sides, but with Jerry Jones, who really knows what makes sense?
