NFL Predictions Week 11 – The tides are definitely turning in the NFL. The results from last week are, as they say, the pudding to which the proof resides. If predicting the weekly winners of the NFL were the stock market, this thing crashed BIG time last week!

We’ll take a look at how the panel at ESPN did last week, along with myself, and we will look into the future to determine who are the teams to beat this week. Sit back, grab a cup o’ joe and check out who we think are the bee’s knees of Week 11.

We have landed at the halfway point of the 2011 season. Every team in the NFL have played out their first 8 games. Only two teams have played into the second half of a 16 game schedule, the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts. The second half is upon us and the playoff brackets are beginning to take shape.

The NFC East has always been a competitive division, in and of itself and outside of the conference/division. The first impressions that many had of the NFC East have been blown out of the water. Regardless of record, any team in this conference is capable, at any time, of making the opposition sorry for mistaking a losing record for terminal weakness. We’ve got the grades and projections for the remainder of the season right here. Welcome to the NFC EAST Midseason Report Card! Check it out!

It was a glorious day to be a New York Giants fan yesterday and the morning after is just as sweet. The energy around town is electric. All of the New York Metro area, sorry Buffalo, is flying high, with good reason. Jets fans are happy with the outcome of their game, 27-11. The New York Giants are more than just a little bit happy. They are downright ecstatic!

Giants fans could not contain their excitement. So, they took to the internet, Twitter in this case, to share their Big Blue pride. The virtual sea of Tweets from Giants fans were countless. Reading the Tweets from my followers was both side-splitting hilarious and jam packed full of emotion. Needless to say, I thought I would share a small collection of them with our readership who are not up on the whole “Tweeting thing.” Read on to experience the virtual Big Blue love.

OK fans, let’s get this out of the way right now. The Rams?! Really? The Rams beat the Saints. My head is still spinning on its neck like Linda Blair in The Exorcist. What can you say? Any given Sunday. Well, we’ve got another Sunday (and Monday) right around the corner and our picks are fresh out of the oven.

ESPN has baked up a tasty little batch of predictions for the upcoming week, as did I. Each week I go head to head with the experts and their two fortune telling robots. The race is pretty close and is still anyones game. Read on to see how they did, how I did and what teams we’re labeling as the easy wins, the fights to the finish and the upsets of the week. Check it out!

The hype for this Sunday’s matchup between the Super Bowl XLII rivals has begun. The New York Giants make their way up north to face the New England Patriots in Gillette Stadium. New England are undefeated at home, so far this season (3-0). In fact, the Pats have not lost a home game since November 30, 2008, against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Both teams are coming off of mediocre performances. The Patriots offense looked subpar last week. Their defense has been struggling all season long, giving up the most yards per game in all of the NFL. The Giants offense looked confused at times, but Eli Manning delivered an electric performance. Their defense struggled all game long, but came up with some very big plays to ensure the win, albeit from one of the worst teams in the NFL. Big Blue are certainly capable of beating the Patriots this season. But can they do it against a team who are 20-0, at home, since December 16, 2008? Let’s hear what Tom Coughlin and Bill Belichick have to say.

It’s hard to believe that we are at Week 8 of the 2011 NFL season. It seems like only yesterday that we were fretting over a football season that would not be. Now, we find ourselves at the midway point with a view of the regular season’s end on the horizon. Only the strong will survive the remaining eight games and make it into the post season. Who will be the chosen few?

Well, the high priests of predictions at ESPN, and yours truly, are here to help you make sense of it all. Each week I take a shot at fortune telling, alongside the eight esteemed members of the ESPN brain trust and their two trusted robots. How did they do last week? How did I do? Who are we collectively picking this week? Read on to find the answers to the questions that bother you so.

The New York Giants sit atop of the NFC East in Week 7. They also find themselves with a much needed Bye Week. Fret not, football fans. There is still plenty of pigskin to go around this week! There are some great games that you won’t want to miss…and some that you would probably prefer to watch paint dry instead.

We hop over the fence to see what teams the experts over at ESPN are picking this week, as well as gawk at their results from last week.

In a recent interview, Andy Reid gave his perspective on the upcoming game against the New York Giants. The interview seemed devoted to the pursuit of details regarding Michael Vick’s health issues and status for next Sunday’s game. However, the big guy couldn’t help but chime in on his thoughts about the Big Blue defense.

“I think they’ve given you about every look they could possibly give you over the last couple of games”

With the Philadelphia Eagles losing this past week’s game, where Michael Vick was booed off of the field, they have nothing to relish in but the days of yore. The New York Giants, of course, have the day off to relish in their victory over the St. Louis Rams last night.

It sounds to me like Andy Reid is currently concerned about what he already knows about the Big Blue Wrecking Crew. What he doesn’t know just might keep him awake at night. Let the battle of the Turnpike Fandom begin!

Don’t forget to—> —> for Giants/NFL news, updates, trivia and more!

Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, children of all ages…Welcome to the official start of the 2011-2012 NFL football season! It was looking rather bleak there for awhile, with that dark, looming lockout milling about. But we’ve hit the ground running, punched through the line, and are working our way towards the big dance – Super Bowl XLVI. So, let’s get things started!

Last season I chimed in with the experts (and robots) over at ESPN to bring you, our readers, a personalized perspective on football forecasting. This season, we jump in right where we left off. The panelists at ESPN have their picks in for this week and the general consensus looks favorable on the Big Blue Wrecking Crew. My picks are burning a virtual hole on the next page and the ratio clock starts now! Did I wax my crystal ball up more so than the other guys during the offseason? Turn the page and keep score!

Linebackers – the Big Blue Wrecking Crew have been notoriously dominant in this area for nearly three decades. We go back to 1981, when Lawrence Taylor, arguably the best linebacker to ever play the game, joined the New York Giants. LT was the second overall selection of the ’81 draft, and of course, the Giants’ first pick that year.

Taylor’s last year was in 1993, when he passed the torch to his successor, Michael Strahan. #92 was the second round pick of the G-Men in ’93 and defined a new era of Giants football. These two bone crushing backs helped to change the face of football and wreaked havoc on opposing QB’s for 26 consecutive years. In 2007, after earning his first and only Super Bowl ring, Michael Strahan retired, thus ending a long standing tradition in Big Blue history.

Source: Yardbarker.com

While the NY Giants LB position is not in dire straits, they will always be on the prowl for the next LT or Strahan. Will they find what they are looking for in the 2011 class of linebackers at the NFL Draft? Let’s take a closer look at the top 5 candidates.

The expectations for the 2010 New York Giants safety regime were quite high, to put it mildly. This “inimitable” squadron turned out to be…well..not too bad. This, of course, is debatable. Despite a few bumps in the road, one of the Big Blue safeties was voted to the Pro Bowl.

Paralleling the children’s tale, “Goldilocks And The Three Bears” (minus Goldilocks), Deon Grant, Antrel Rolle and Kenny Phillips represent the three facets of a professional football player’s career. Phillips – a relative rookie. Rolle – close to the midpoint of his profession. Grant – a seasoned veteran with more days behind him than in front.

We witnessed a WILD, Wildcard Weekend and as you can see, even the necromancers of ESPN got their crystal ball visions crossed.
The regular season may be over, who knows better than us New York Giants fans, but football is still in FULL swing! This weekend marks the first round of the NFL playoffs and it’s going to get wild! Yes, folks, it’s time for all of those scrappers who were holding on for dear life to prove if they have the sand to move on to the next round. It’s Wildcard Weekend in the NFL! As the title indicates, the gurus over at ESPN have chosen the Green Bay Packers to win by a majority decision.

This week I am throwing my two cents into the playoff race along with the rest of the ESPN team. Last week was another week full of upset victories and shocking defeats. There were 9 unanimous ESPN picks. I went against the tide on a number of them. How did I fare against this panel of prophetic pundits? Who am I going with for this Wildcard Weekend? There’s only one way to find out. Click on the link below to check it out.

As I perused this morning’s headlines I found something that kicked up my dander, put a bee in my bonnet, ruffled my feathers, jerked a knot in my tail, aka made me angry. I find it only fitting to express my frustration in a superfluous manner. Why, you ask? In my quest for an enthralling Sunday morning read I stumbled upon the proverbial straw and boy, is this camel’s back broke.

The “Is Tom Coughlin‘s Job In Jeopardy” pieces have been officially labelled as redundant, excessive, bombastic, inordinate, aka played out. My mind began to wonder, as it could not put a number on the amount of times it had glanced upon a similar headline. So, I did what any inquisitive newshound would do. I Googled it.

Much to my surprise, the search result turned up over 6,000 related articles. Over 6,000!! I truly thought that number would be higher. Then something mind blowing occurred, I saw the time frame and then the staggering factor hit. Over six thousand write ups in under a month? That’s completely ridiculous!

Tis’ the season is the popular saying this time of year; the season for giving. Christmas in New York City is truly a magical time. Perhaps I am a little biased, being a native New Yorker but if you are looking for that Yule Tide feeling, you wont have to look very far in the Big Apple. This past Thursday night was one of many nights, I am sure, that New York Giants Defensive End Osi Umenyiora was feeling the Christmas spirit.

Perry Ellis sponsored Lord & Taylor’s, “Guys Night Out” last night. To say it was a huge success would be an understatement. On hand to meet and greet the fans were New York Jets LB – Bart Scott, the New York Jets Flight Crew Cheerleaders and our very own Osi Umenyiora. The Lord & Taylor flagship store was brimming with holiday shoppers and Giants fans alike. While most in attendance of the “Guys Night Out” couldn’t wait to meet their favorite New York Giant, some just wanted to play video games.

Coming off a bye-week and traveling west to play a team unbeaten at home in one of NFL’s loudest stadiums is something that would usually make any Giants fan wary. The Giants before their game against Seattle were 6-15 and 3-3 with Tom Coughlin after the bye week and had been overpowered 40-30 in 2006 at Qwest Field, turning the ball over 4 times and penalized 8 times. However in 2006, Seattle did not have 8 players on their inactive list, one including starting QB Matt Hasselback. With the NY Giants coming out playing Big Blue football in what would be a statistical mismatch and ultimately a New York Football Giant beat down, they improved their record to 6-2 and remain one game on top of the Eagles in the NFC East.

After forcing the Seahawks to a three and out to start the game, the Giants first possession ended like many of the previous this season, with a turnover. Kevin Boss on the Giants fifth play on offense fumbled the ball on the SEA 32, stalling a potentially scoring drive and giving the ball back to the Seahawks, showing a continued concern for the Giants turnover “plague”. It was the Giants 19th turnover this season and an all too familiar sight for Giants fans as the game began. After the turnover, the Giants’ D set the tone early forcing Charlie Whitehurst and Seattle to -4 yards in three plays, forcing a second consecutive three and out. Beside a meaningless fourth quarter score, Boss’ fumble proved to be the Giants only setback of the game as they continued their dominance through Week 9. The Giants scored three times in four minutes in the first quarter, five times total en route to a 41-6 decimation of the wounded Seattle Seahawks.

Qwest Field, known for its “12th man” atmosphere, went from quite to being silenced after the first play of the second quarter when Terrell Thomas intercepted a pass from Charlie Whitehurst intended for Mike Williams. The Giants continued to keep a muzzle on Qwest, possessing the ball for a staggering 42:34 putting up 487 total yards. Eli Manning went 21/32, passing for 290 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. Ahmad Bradshaw ran for 2 touchdowns and 66 yards, Brandon Jacobs led the team in rushing with 78 yards. The Giants defense, while watching a majority of the game from the sidelines, continued adding Fewell to the fire with interceptions from Terrell Thomas and Corey Webster. The Seahawks were held to 162 total yards and 7 first downs. The Giants 35-0 halftime lead was their biggest since a game in 1959 against the Redskins.

Even the special teams got in the mix on Sunday causing a forced fumble, which later transformed into a 4 yard touchdown run by Bradshaw. Matt Dodge proved he’s coming into his own with no miscues for a second consecutive game. Although he only punted once, he got off a booming 50 yarder. With Darius Reynaud ruled out with a tweaked hamstring, Will Blackmon got his first start with the Giants, a week after being picked up. Blackmon returned one kickoff for 17 yards and three punts with a long of 22. Although showing more elusiveness and explosiveness than Reynaud, we still have yet to see a big play from the Giants return men. As for the coverage team, they continue to struggle. Seattle’s Leon Washington managed 113 yards on five returns, one long for 57 yards. Many have questioned special teams coach, Tom Quinn and with good reason after last season and the start of this seasons performance.

As the game concluded the Giants ran away with their biggest win of the season, their biggest road win since 1993, and their first win in Seattle since 1981. With a 6-2 record, the Giants are no strangers to starting off the first half of the season as the NFL’s elite. In all seven seasons with Tom Couglin, the Giants have started off 5-2, but have a winning percentage of only .453 in the final nine games. However, this year just feels different. This season is quickly being compared to the 2007 season when the Giants made their miraculous Super Bowl run. In each of the two seasons, the Giants started off slow and overcame diversity in the locker room. In each of the two seasons, Eli Manning caught fire and the defensive looked impenetrable. However the big difference between this year and 2007 is that it is only Week 10. With 5 huge division games still to play, two against the Eagles, and games in Green Bay and Minnesota, the Super Bowl is still three months away. So relax people, as much as we’d all like to see the Giants run through the division, the remainder of the schedule, and make it to the Super Bowl, lets just focus on next week’s game against the transitioning Dallas Cowboys.

The Giants had two massive injuries to the offensive line this weekend. Adam Koets, the center who has done an outstanding job filling in for an injured Shaun O’Hara went down for the year with an injured knee ligament. David Diehl is out indefinitely with a partial hamstring tear and hip injury. Currently Seubert is playing center and Andrews is playing left tackle. All season the Giants have been puzzling offensive linemen in due to O’Hara’s injury and have seen much success. But this is something to watch, if O’Hara cannot get healthy and Diehl’s hamstring injury persists, the Giants might have a few pieces missing to the puzzle.
