As many of you know the voting is finally in and the Hall of Fame results are official. Coach Bill Parcells will be taking the magical ride to Canton, Ohio to get inducted while Michael Strahan will have to wait one more year at least.

Regarding his election to the Hall of Fame, Bill Parcells had this to say:

“I’m honored, I really am,” said Parcells, who was a finalist last year. “It’s just unbelievable. When you start in this business you’re not aspiring to do anything but win games and keep your job. After a while your aspirations change to try to win division and win playoff games. After that to the championship level if you can get there. When it’s all over with, like it has been for me for a few years, you obviously think about it some. I’m just very appreciative of everything.”

New York Giants President and CEO John Mara had the following to say regarding the new Hall of Famer:

I’m very happy for Bill,” “This is long overdue. He’s one of the best coaches in NFL history. He turned our franchise around. We went through a long period in the 1960’s and 70’s when we were a laughing stock. When Bill took over in 1983 he survived a very difficult first year, but then turned us into a perennial playoff contender and won two Super Bowls for us. He coached three other teams and everywhere he went, he had great success. I’m very happy that he will be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.”

According to Giants.com, Bill Parcells will become the 19th player/coach who played a “significant” amount of time with the New York Giants to be elected to the Hall of Fame. The Giants rank are third among all NFL franchises with the number of players/coaches who have been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Class act Michael Strahan congratulated Coach Parcells and took to Twitter to quickly talk about his own Canton chances:

Congratulations to the 2013 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. Parcells, Ogden, Allen, Carter and Sapp. Enjoy the well deserved honor….Thanks for the HOF tweets. I Love you all and I hope I eventually make it in. I look at it as a delayed blessing and I have many now!

Certainly, we all hope that Michael will be joining Coach Parcells in the near future.

In a short few hours we will know if two New York Giants, Michael Strahan and Bill Parcells have made the football Hall of Fame. They are two of the 17 finalists for the Hall of Fame.

March 30, 2012; Jupiter, FL, USA; New York Mets manager Terry Collins (10) walks with former NFL head coach Bill Parcells before a spring training game between the New York Mets and the St. Louis Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium.
Last year Bill Parcells fell short of making the Hall of Fame. Many thought this was punishment from the voters for his on again and off again love affair with the NFL. Parcells retired and un-retired numerous times throughout his career in the NFL. However, he is a two-time Super Bowl winner was first man to coach four franchises into the playoffs (Giants, Patriots, Jets, Cowboys). He has an all-time record of 172 wins, 130 losses, 1 tie. He is also 11 and 8 in the Play-offs all-time. My Vote In

Michael Strahan, one of the most popular GIANTS off all time, is up for induction for the very first time.

Feb 7, 2012; New York, NY, USA; New York Giants former player Michael Strahan during the Super Bowl XLVI victory celebration in downtown Manhattan.
Strahan retired from the Giants after their Super Bowl Championship in 2007 and since then has lead a successful career working for Fox Sports and recently becoming the permanent co-host of Live with Kelly and Michael. Strahan played his entire career with the New York Giants during which he recorded 1411/2 career sacks and made seven Pro Bowls. He was also NFL defensive player of the Year in 2001. To this day he remains one of the biggest Giants supporters and popular among the fans. My vote: IN

Hopefully I will be in Canton, Ohio watching the induction of two great Giants come this August.

Before the Giants crushing loss to the Washington Redskins on Monday night, the GMen HQ crew was able to toss around some questions with some of the Giants greats. One of those legends was 2006 Hall of Fame inductee, Harry Carson. Harry took some time to answer questions ranging from Bill Belichick to RGIII. The interview quickly turned into a relaxed conversation by the end of it all. Carson was joined by Lawrence Taylor and Mark Bavaro who also took time to answer some questions that will be released later this week.

Question: What was it like being coached by two of the best in Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick?

Carson: ”It was good, maybe you should ask them how it was to coach guys like me and Lawrence Taylor”, he said jokingly. “No, but they were great coaches and taught me a lot. They really made me become a better player and helped me realize a championship.”

I also mentioned to him that Bill Belichick referred to him as the best linebacker he has ever coached. His response was “Well I’d have to agree with him on that, I’m a little biased.”

Question: What was it like being a member of the Big Blue Wrecking Crew defense in the 1980s?

Carson: ”We had a great group of guys. As a captain, the guys really did everything the coaches and I asked of them. We had a lot of fun playing the game during those years.”

Question: I was at Metlife stadium when the Giants unveiled their own Ring of Honor. How did it feel to be a part of that ceremony?

Carson: ”It was great. When you play the game for a team like the Giants, there is a lot of history and tradition. It’s an honor to be the first class that they inducted.”

Question: What was your proudest moment throughout your NFL career?

Carson: ”The Super Bowl in 1986 when I went out as the lone captain for the coin toss.”

Question: What was it like to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame?

Carson: ”It was an honor to represent the Giants and my teammates in the Hall of Fame. It really meant a lot to me.”

Question: Would you be able to tell us about your role with the retired NFL players?

Carson: ”I’ve tried to be an advocate on behalf of those retired players that really don’t have a voice, like I was as captain of the Giants.”

Question: If you could be any athlete in football this day and age, who would you choose?

Carson: ”There are a number of great players in the league. If I had to pick one, it would be Patrick Willis on the San Francisco 49ers. He is a very active inside linebacker, which I admire.”

Question: What do you think of the Giants opposing quarterback tonight, Robert Griffin III?

Carson: ”RGIII is a super athlete. He is the most athletic quarterback I have ever seen, period. He has 4-3 speed, just the complete package. He is the key for the Redskins to get to the next level.”

*I would like to thank Harry Carson for taking his time out to give his professional insight.

I recently got into a conversation that started with “what’s up with Tiki?”, so here’s J.T.’S Take.
First I have to say I loved Tiki. He was always my favorite Giant on and off the field. I remember watching him playing for Virginia on a Thursday night game versus Florida State and he was simply dominant. To see a guy that size have that big an impact on a game was amazing. I was extremely pleased when the Giants drafted him. The Giants in those years had the same affection for Virginia players that we now have with Boston College players, due to the fact that Al Groh was the head coach of Virginia, and he was a former Giants assistant. Anyway, I was excited to see what he could do in the NFL. I have had occasion to meet, speak with, and E-mail Tiki over the years and he has never been anything but kind, helpful, and a gentleman. Heck, I even named my dog after him!
