In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, many routes to MetLife Stadium will be unavailable for fans hoping to get to the game. Here’s a summary of ways to get to the Sunday’s Giants v. Steelers game:

- Car: Though many of the backroads are still covered in debris from the storm, the major parkways are clear and all bridges are open. The temporary ban on passenger cars holding fewer than 3 people will also be repealed today, and won’t be in effect on Sunday. The bridges are the best option for driving into/out of New Jersey, as many of the tunnels around the city remain flooded. Driving directions are provided on the stadium’s website, and the parking lot will open at 11:00 am for the 4:25 pm start.

- Bus: Buses will provide travel between the stadium and the Port Authority, but may have to take some detours around closed roads. Expect huge lines, however, as this is the only way to get to the stadium via public transportation from New York City. Also, keep in mind that the subway is still only partially operational. A map of the lines currently open for service is provided here.

NJ Transit has been crippled by damage to their rail operations center and the debris covering their tracks. Their website has a pretty intense slideshow of the damage their tracks have suffered. As a result, NJ Transit trains will not be traveling to MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

The Giants have just posted a notice on their website indicating that they will provide free park and ride service in two locations: the parking lot at the Secaucus train station (675 New County Road at Seaview Drive, 4.5 miles from the stadium) and at 20 Murray Hill Parkway in Rutherford. There will also be limited cash parking available at the stadium, although it is not clear how much those spots will cost.

For those of you who decide to sell your tickets rather than go, the cheapest pair on StubHub is going for $135/ticket, still far above face value despite the extraordinary difficulty of getting to the stadium this week. For those of you who do go, make sure to leave extra time and try to be patient with the long lines your sure to face no matter which transportation option you choose. Stay safe out there and let’s go Giants!

P.S. The NYC Marathon, which was scheduled for Sunday, has just been cancelled. That should free up some congestion around the city on game day.

The New York Giants are set to open up their season September 5th, vs. divisional rival, Dallas. However, the Cowboys may be coming to New York, without one of their best weapons, pro bowl tight end, Jason Witten.

Witten suffered an injury to his spleen during the Cowboys first preseason game against Oakland, less than a week ago.

It’s unclear what Witten’s status will be for the opener, but he is out for the remainder of the pre-season.

“It’s a very serious injury and we’re really taking this thing day by day,” Garrett said. “He has to be very still and idle for the next week to 10 days, so you won’t see him out here on the practice field. He won’t play in the game this week or next week. We’ve just got to make sure he heals as well as possible, as quickly as possible.”

The hit, in which Witten supposedly was injured on, looked like an ordinary football play. It certainly wasn’t something you would sit back and think ‘Witten could be out for the year’.

The Giants have taken notice too. DE Justin Tuck, on a phone interview, wished his NFC foe a speedy recovery, just after week 1.

“You definitely don’t want to wish for anything but the best for your opponents in the NFL. Jason’s been a staple in that offense in the NFL. We do wish him a speedy recovery. (Pause) Hopefully it comes the week after we play them.” Tuck said.

As if Metlife Stadium wasn’t going to be hard enough to play in. Now, with a receiving core, already decimated by injuries and domestic violence’s, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys could have an even tougher time “beating the Giants asses!”

Who says the New York Giants and New York Jets do not see eye-to-eye on topics? There is at least one topic that the Giants and the Jets do agree on: No mega mall in the Meadowlands (unless they make money from it). The company which has bought the vacant Xanadu site, Triple Five, project wants to build a mall of epic proportions

…owns the Mall of America near Minneapolis and the West Edmonton Mall in Alberta, want to transform the Meadowlands site into a 3 million square foot megamall filled with shops, restaurants, nightclubs, a 26-screen movie theater and 3,000-seat performing arts theater, indoor glass-domed amusement and water parks, a skating rink and a ski slope with real snow

June 14, 2012; Florham Park, NJ, USA; New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow (15) during minicamp at the Atlantic Health Training Center.
The Giants and Jets claim in their lawsuit that this new project does not conform to the guidelines they established when the former Xanadu site was built and that the estimated 55 million people the mall would draw a year would cause “epic” traffic problems. The Giants and Jets filed the injunction in the Superior Court located in Bergen County, New Jersey.

However, not many people appear to be feel sorry or even agree with the Giants and Jets. New Site developer, Triple Five released a statement saying:

“In suing the State of New Jersey and our company, the teams have revealed they want to exert monopolistic control over the entire complex,” a company statement said. “They want to tell us when and how we can operate our business. I am sure they would not want us to tell them when they can play their football games.”

The Mayor of New Jersey went on to say

”It’s a telling sign that these two New York-based teams are throwing up legal roadblocks to an economic enterprise that will benefit thousands of people in the region,” said East Rutherford Mayor James Cassella. “They don’t want to be good neighbors. They just want to exploit New Jersey.”

You can read the full article here.

This is dicey situation for both the New York Football Giants Organization the New York Jets. However, one thing I do know is that the

Feb 5, 2012; Indianapolis, IN, USA; New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz (80) celebrates after Super Bowl XLVI against the New England Patriots at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Mayor of New Jersey just needs to shut -up. To say these two clubs just want to “exploit New Jersey” is a load of hogwash. Let’s be honest here; If it was not for the Mara Family and the Giants organization the Jets would be playing football in the West Side and the Giants would be playing who knows where. Simply put: No body knows where East Rutherford, New Jersey is without the Giants.

As most of the sports world knows, the two New York football heavyweights are set to take on each other in a game of immense importance on Christmas Eve.

Both teams are fighting for their playoff lives and for the Giants it is nothing short of a must win.

Christmas is a time of gathering and relaxation for families all over the country, but in New York, there will be no relaxing until the clock hits 0:00 in the 4th.

Most Giants fans are well aware of the struggles in the secondary. Prince is not ready for prime time, Grant looks old, and Rolle takes no blame for blown coverage. The only player who has looked somewhat decent has been Corey Webster.

Here is a haunting stat in regards to this that should make fans quiver. The Giants have allowed opposing wide outs to score 11 touchdowns in the past five weeks. Ouch.

Touchdowns aside, the Giants need to make sure that Santonio Holmes is in check. In 15 weeks this season, Holmes has yet to eclipse over 100 yds receiving. The Giants do not want to give Holmes an early Christmas present by allowing him to get over that mark.

A sight into the future?

The Giants are hoping that their secondary ends up on the nice list rather than the naughty list for this coming Christmas. (I’m sorry, I had to)

The New York Giants now have 6 games remaining with 5 different opponents, since the play the Cowboys twice down the stretch. Here is a weekly look at where those teams stand in their division, in their conference and how they are currently faring.

The Saints: The Giants(6-4) play the New Orleans Saints(7-3) next Monday night in the Superdome. The Saints lead the NFC South by one game over Atlanta, but have a 3-1 division record compared to The Falcons 1-2. Coming off a bye this week, the Saints play the opposite Prime Time schedule from what the Giants will be experiencing. They play Monday against New York and the following Sunday night versus Detroit in New Orleans as that game has been flexed by NBC. The Saints have the same high flying offense they have always had with Drew Brees at the controls. They rank First in Yards, 2nd in passing yards and First in points. It will be interesting to see how healthy the Saints return from their bye week. Their defense has been inconsistent this year and they will for sure be without LB Jonathan Vilma after he had surgery on his knee last week. The Saints are always a tough opponent, especially at home.

Green Bay: The Giants will host the Green Bay Packers on December 4th. Aaron Rodgers and the seemingly unstoppable Packer offense will be a major challenge for the Giants. The Packers currently at 10-0 are obviously leading both their division and the NFC. They play this Thursday versus Detroit and then get all that extra time off before they meet the Giants. The good news here is that the Packers are 21st in rushing and their defense has given up plenty of yards (31st in passing) and points. They take many chances knowing that Rodgers and the offense can make up for many mistakes if necessary.

Dallas: The Giants will play the division rival Cowboys twice down the stretch, first on December 11th, another Sunday Night Football affair in Arlington, and then on New Years Day in New Giants Stadium to finish out the regular season. The Cowboys had basically the opposite schedule form the Giants, with tough opponents early, and the supposed softer schedule late. The Cowboys also have made themselves better by finding a running game. DeMarco Murray has proven to be the missing piece to the offense and Jason Garrett’s Cowboys. Tony Romo still runs this team, and it will ultimately either succeed or fail because of him, but it gives him another weapon he did not have earlier in the year. These two divisional battles will no doubt decide the NFC EAST tittle.

Washington: The Redskins are a tough defensive team. Their offense however has fallen on hard times. They have lost starting running backs, tight ends, and receivers. And as the old saying goes, if you have two quarterbacks, then really you have none. Another important division contest here that needs to be won not only for overall record, but for tie-breaking purposes.

The Jets: The Giants get to visit the Jets in their own building. On Christmas Eve the scrooge inspired Jets will try and save their season, and ruin the Giants all in one night. The Giants usually handle the Jets by doing what the Steelers did to them last year in the playoffs….run the ball. However, this years Giants team has had trouble getting any sort of running attack started, and if the offensive line continues to struggle, the Jets defense will make them look silly. This should be a low scoring affair, with all the struggles the Jet offense is currently experiencing. But this game is a long way off, and the implications of the contest are yet to be decided. We will keep our eye on this one as the weeks progress.

So….There you have it…..The Giants play two of the top teams in the NFC, both coming off extra rest in the next two weeks…one of those games needs to be won, or we leave our fate in the hands of others once again.

As the Giants prepare to entertain their conference rival Eagles at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands for a Sunday night nationally televised game, questions abound. One may evaluate the numbers, attach metrics to tendencies, and look at rankings in various categories to address these questions but I am not sure it will be of much good. For these 2 teams really don’t like each other and there is ample

MetLife Stadium, Time to make good memories

history to fortify that abhorrence. No, I think a dispensing with all the statistics is in order, for this game will come down to who makes fewer mistakes and imposes their will over the other. Let’s try to isolate some of the questions regarding this game.

The Eagles run the ball better than anyone else, gaining almost 173 yards on the ground. Simply because Michael Vick is not expected to play does not negate the Eagles ability to move the ball on the ground. Vince Young is a capable runner and poses a physical presence. LeSean McCoy is one of the most exciting running backs in football. He runs with a style reminiscent of Barry Sanders which raises big red flags when imagining the challenge the Giants will have in stopping him. Couple McCoy’s outstanding running ability with the undermanned linebacker unit and it is time to pour a double for yourself. It will be interesting to see if Mark Herzlich is ready for prime time, for the speed of the game may be more than he is currently able to match. I remember watching A.J. Hawk and Clay Matthews in their first few games some years ago and they struggled. They also were not coming off a life threatening disease that robbed their bodies of muscle and substance. So in view of these facts I invoke the Michel Jordan Doctrine: You can’t stop him you can only hope to contain him. And containing McCoy will be key if the Giants are to ostensibly end the season for these dirty birds from 90 miles down the turnpike.
