Cornerback Asante Samuels has signed a three-year $18.5 million contract the Atlanta Falcons. If he had stayed in Philadelphia he would have received $9.9 million in 2012 and $11.4 million in 2013. In the trade to Atlanta the Philadelphia Eagles acquired a late-round draft pick.

The trade seems good for Samuels, the Falcons, the Eagles…and for the Giants. Asante Samuels is a four-time Pro Bowl pick and it is always dangerous for offenses when Samuels is lurking along the sidelines. The Giants will no longer have to worry about Samuels twice per season. The Giants will, however, face the Falcons and Samuels this season in Atlanta at 1:00pm ET Sunday, Dec. 16 2012.

The Falcons had a tough time against 30+ yard passes thrown to the defense’s left side last season and they believe that Samuels will solve this issue.

The Eagles seemed ready let Samuels go ever since he made a comment reflecting his disapproval of the teams actions at the trade deadline last year. Samuels stated that the front office was “playing fantasy football with the owner’s money.” The Eagles already have two other Pro Bowl cornerbacks for offenses to worry about in Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Will Asante Samuels have an impact in Atlanta? Should the Eagles have made amends with Samuels?
