If you have been paying attention lately you know that NIKE is launching NEW UNIFORMS for the Entire NFL on Tuesday April 3rd. While there are sure to be some surprises in cities like Seattle, Denver, Cincinnati, and maybe Miami, I think the Giants fans can count on the old standard with just a few tweaks. Here is a peak at the workout gear from NIKE….Full gameday Uniforms will be shown this coming Tuesday. I have heard that a full Orange version is in play for the Broncos this season, I’m sure Peyton will look good in that! Click here for the Team Store Shop

Big news came out of the NFL late Friday night, and also some news for for the sake of news it seems. First, to the real story. The Rams have traded the rights to the second pick in the upcoming NFL Draft to the Washington Redskins for draft picks. The Rams will move down to Washington’s #6 spot and also receive the Redskins second round pick this year, and their first round picks for the next two years. Quite a haul for first year GM Les Snead. The Redskins and Browns were rumored for weeks to the teams seeking to trade up into this spot. The Redskins were thought to be players in the Peyton Manning sweepstakes recently, but it has become widely known that Peyton and the Mannings didn’t want to be in the same division as Eli. The Redskins took the plunge, probably over paid a bit, considering the timing of the deal, and now will most likely select QB Robert Griffin III out of Baylor on draft day. Griffin is a player, and will contribute instantly, but it still will be a process to surround him with talent considering the trade of draft picks.

The Rams make out like bandits. They knew they could get a lot for their pick and did. They have a QB in Bradford, and now have the stock pile of picks to continue to improve this team in the near future. Good decisions using those picks will know be the only thing standing between St. Louis and rapid improvement.

Peyton Manning took a trip to Denver yesterday to speak with John Elway, and is on his way to Arizona to interview the Cardinals. He will probably make stops in Miami, K.C., and Houston. All other dreamers of winning the Peyton sweepstakes should probably move on and make other plans….and that brings us to the Jets.

The Jets made no secret that they would, of course, entertain the thought of bringing in Peyton Manning. They should have, that’s a GM’s job, to explore all possibilities. However, the Jets can’t ever seem to do anything quietly, or make it seem like business as usual. They had players saying they NEED to get him, the G.M. was on the radio talking about how they would explore the possibilities. They had put themselves in the talk, so they would be talked about. This quest for recognition is childish at times, like little kids insisting they sit at the grown-ups table. Everyone wants to be a Jet right? Everyone wants to play for the Jets right? When they finally got the word that Peyton had no interest in them, they then felt they needed to do something, anything to show they were on a different path all along. What did they do? They extended the contract of Mark Sanchez. Here is a QB that at the end of the season the GM said had “taken a step back this year”. A kid, who while talented, has shown no ability to lead this team, and maybe shown some signs of either being un-coachable, or maybe lacking a bit of a work ethic. So, Now we know why everyone wants to be a JET….they reward poor performance, don’t ever reprimand or hold you accountable for your actions, and provide NO competition for your job at any level or position. Great Job!

Let’s see Peyton in Miami, Brady in N.E…….

The Peyton Manning Era came to an end today after 14 years in Indianapolis. Peyton Manning is now a free agent, and can sign with any team at any time. The decision to release Peyton was a simple one, and another product of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The Colts were to pay 28 million in a signing bonus this week. The next five years would have cost Indy 90 million more. Even if Andrew Luck is half the man they say he is…..he will only cost the Colts 24 million total for the next 4 years. The new CBA, negotiated by Peyton’s now former center Jeff Saturday, pretty much sealed the fate of his QB. With the rebuilding that needs to go on in Indy, you will need to use all the money saved on Peyton to get some weapons for Luck. and the defense.

When all the emotional smoke clears, it will be seen that this decision was clear as day.

Timm Matthews was kind enough to visit us here at GMENHQ.COM and answer some questions about the Giants Cowboys showdown this Sunday night. Timm has been a sports anchor/reporter/editor in Dallas/Ft. Worth for 25 years. Timm was a sports anchor at KXAS-TV NBC-5 and then at KTVT-TV CBS-11 for 21 years. More recently he’s served as Editor-in-Chief of Scoreboard Magazine, the only sports/lifestyle magazine in Dallas/Ft. Worth. In addition Timm is an anchor/host for Fox Sports Southwest, hosting Mavericks, Stars and Rangers shows. Timm is the host for the ESPN Golf Connection show on ESPN radio in Dallas/Ft. Worth. Throughout his career Timm has hosted numerous local television programs covering the Dallas Cowboys, NASCAR, golf, tennis and high school sports. He’s also served as an emcee for various charity and business events.

1. Jason Garrett was touted for years as the “next hot assistant” and a great Head Coach in waiting. In the short time he has had the job what is your take on the job he has done, and what is the general take of fans?

I think he still has a lot to learn as a head coach…he’s not sure if he wants to be aggressive and unpredictable like his former coach/mentor Jimmy Johnson or play it safe to keep Jerry happy, so he’s a little of both. Most fans are thinking that Princeton is over-rated for brilliance.

2. Dez Bryant is one of the most talented athletes we have seen in years. Of course, he has also been one of the most injured, and perceived as a knucklehead at times. Is he soon to be the dangerous weapon he can be, or is he a disaster waiting to happen? (more…)
