Morning/Afternoon Roundup

Preseason really sneaks up on you huh?  In anticipation of this Thursdays game against the Lions here’s what’s going on with Big Blue:

Gerris Wilkinson is still hurting.  G-MEN HQ favorite, Paul Schwartz over at the NY POST reports the promising linebacker is once again watching the action from the sideline. When Kawika Mitchell was injured for the season finale against the New England Patriots, Wilkinson filled in beautifully.  Thus, when Mitchell departed for the Buffalo Bills this offseason, we were not concerned.  Unfortunately, it’s going to be hard for Wilkinson to fill Mitchell’s shoes if he can’t make his way onto the gridiron. [Update: The NJ Star Ledger is reporting Wilkinson was practicing this afternoon]

These kinks better be worked out quickly.  The NY Post’s Giants Blog has a training camp update in what will be the team’s first game week (Again, Paul Schwartz killing it on the coverage):

"TE Kevin Boss who has caught virtually everything thus far in camp, could not make the grab on a lunging attempt from Manning over the middle… David Carr could not have thrown a better pass on a deep toss to Sinorice Moss who had a step on two rookies, S Kenny Phillips and CB Terrell Thomas. The ball floated down perfectly to Moss … who watched as it slid right through his arms and to the grass. Moss looked up to the sky in bewilderment."

Great news on Boss who, I really think, will make the transition to the P.S. Era (Post-Shockey) seamless.  Boss looked great, especially in the Super Bowl, and it seems like he has a great connection with Eli.  Sinorice on the other hand…Eh?  With the addition of Super Mario (Mario Manningham) this offseason, Sinorice definitely has to be feeling the heat.  If the third-year wideout doesn’t pick it up, he may find himself on the sideline even if he is healthy for once.  The third-year is typically a breakout year however…

We have a Plax sighting.  According to the NJ Star Ledger, Plaxico did a little yogging on the sideline Sunday:

"“The Giants held another up-tempo practice this evening, but the team’s most significant move might have occurred on a side field. Wide receiver Plaxico Burress did some light running for the first time since training camp started. Burress has missed all 14 training camp practices because of a sore ankle. Team doctors were in town today and gave him permission to begin light running.”"

During his tenure with the Giants, practice has been a horrible barometer of how healthy Plax is.  Personally, I think Plaxico is still pouting about his contract.  But rightly so.  With 209 receptions and 3,227 yards since he joined the team in 2005, Plaxico has definitely outplayed his contract, and the team needs to show that they take care of their own.

The Lions are going down!  More reports coming this week as we prepare to hit the field.
