5. Cleveland Browns
The Browns own the 12th and 19th pick in the 1st-round so for them to move up a couple of spots is very doable. What could they be looking for at the 9th pick? Well, a couple of things.
For one, if they feel Johnny Manziel is their starting quarterback for the long-term a guy like Amari Cooper or Kevin White -if they are still available- could be a highly valued commodity to build a strong supporting cast around the young signal-caller.
In my opinion, I don’t think they trade up for a guy like Marcus Mariota in this spot because it’s simply too soon to give up on Manziel. Trading up for Mariota would then be saying that they’re basically forfeiting one of their 1st-round picks from last season. It’s an ego thing, and it would only make the Manziel situation worse.
A running back like Todd Gurley or Melvin Gordon could be a real option in this trade for Cleveland and would probably cost them a swap of 1st-rounders with the Giants and a mid-round pick somewhere in the 3rd-round range. This also depends on how desperate Cleveland is though, which could sweeten the pot for the Giants’ front office.
