Ranking the New York Giants Coaching Staff: Ben McAdoo’s First Crew
By Mike Luca
10. Aaron Wellman (Strength and Conditioning)
As alluded to earlier, a primary concern of the Giants is prolonged health throughout a complete season. The recruitment of Wellman should be the most speculative phase of New York’s evolution, combatting a much-needed modern approach with truly foreign territory.
“Wellman performed movement screenings to evaluate mobility and stability deficits along with subsequent programs to mitigate individual injury risk. He implemented athlete-monitoring systems including GPS, psychometric questionnaires, neuromuscular fatigue assessments and salivary testing.” – Notre Dame press release
Though Wellman possesses zero experience at football’s professional level, references from Notre Dame and the University of Michigan vouch for his coming-of-age techniques. Wellman will look to one-up approaches Coughlin and Palmieri were finally trying, from refining GPS tracking to adding saliva testing.
Of course, many should remember to the fact that in Wellman’s sole year with Notre Dame, the program quickly suffered numerous key injuries, headlined by the losses of starting QB Malik Zaire and RB C.J. Prosise. Even more comically, the one Giants player to publicly stand up for Wellman thus far is perennially injured safety Nat Berhe.
Science is an ever-changing game to the point of being a crapshoot, hence the fake encyclopedia of obsolete diets. Give credit to McAdoo for thinking outside of the box, but the jury is deciding whether it’s good or bad to hold their breath on this.
9. Markus Paul (Strength and Conditioning Assistant)
By far the most crucial re-hire that barely anyone will talk about is that of Paul. The difference here as opposed to the given stance on Danos is that Paul will be more hands-on in aiding Wellman’s move to the NFL. A survivor from the Super Bowl XLVI title, the duo becomes considerably more credible.
