Top 10 Best Undrafted NFL Players Originally Signed by the New York Giants
By Neal Lynch
2. Bart Oates – C, BYU Cougars
Approximate Value with Giants: 79
Average AV per season: 9
The Giants signed Oates in 1985 at the age of 27 because he’d played three seasons with the Philadelphia / Baltimore Stars in the USFL where he won two USFL championships. So, this kind of sort of the exception to the rules I laid out in the introduction, BUT though the USFL was a professional league, it wasn’t the NFL and the Giants were the first NFL team to sign the BYU product. With the G-Men, Oates won one Super Bowl ring, was selected to three Pro Bowls (1990, 1991, 1993), and named to the UPI All-NFC team (1987). He was extremely durable, starting 125 consecutive games from 1987 – 1992. He also had an awesome cameo on Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
