1. Landon Collins, S

While Collins’ personal life presently ranges from confusion to potential red flag, it’s his developing range on the field that is delivering him the keys to the defense.

Collins endured growing pains as the second-year starting safety with high ambitions towards New York’s future, and he managed to cash in on the occasional big-league highlights. Top dollars allotted to the defensive line revamp will crucially alleviate strife for the No. 32 passing defense in terms of yardage allowed.

It’s also a subtle possibility that linebacker isn’t the glaring issue it may seem to be if Collins every-so-often preys from the second tier as a Deon Grant-esque safety-linebacker hybrid. Such lethally practiced versatility is the reason Collins remains trusted so early in his career while Bennett Jackson and company slug for the opposite slot.

The Giants sat on plenty of time to add another safety – like Reggie Nelson – while prospects Karl Joseph and Su’a Cravens are now noteworthy candidates in the second round come April.

It’s rather telling that Pro Bowler Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie’s new partner Janoris Jenkins breaks the bank, leaving Collins to soak up the safety spotlight uncontested. Regardless of where he lines up on any given play, he’s the silent killer of the defense moving forward.
