7. Deon Bush, Miami Hurricanes

Height: 6 feet | Weight: 199 pounds | Projected Round: 4-6

Bush’s place on this list might be the most polarizing. According to a scout from the AFC North, Bush put together a “horrific tape” this past season.

Deon was the top performer on the bench press at the scouting combine with 17 reps and ended up with a 5.2 grade, which put him in the top half of participants. His five forced fumbles in 2014 led the ACC and he was an honorable mention for all-conference honors in 2015. But, he only had 168 combined tackles and four interceptions in four years at The U.

More from NY Giants Draft

From WalterFootball, who ranked Bush 16th best among safety prospects:

"“Bush totaled 47 tackles with one interception and four pass breakups in 2015. He was a solid defender for Miami. Bush had a respectable showing at the East-West Shrine, but he didn’t impress at the combine.”"

CBS Sports analysts Rob Rang and Dane Brugler noted that Bush

"“…compares to Dashon Goldson” because of his “combination of closing speed, physicality and ball-skills every scouts is looking for.” “…was considered one of the better seniors at his position over the summer, but his 2015 season was disappointing as he battled injuries and inconsistency…Bush is a heat-seeking missile with a knack for delivering monster hits.”"

Do the New York Giants want what appears to be a younger version of Brandon Meriweather? A guy who lays the smackdown, but also gets burned? Deon seems like more of a gamble than Byard, but get the higher placement due to the level of competition he faced. NFLDraftScout ranked Bush 15th out of 106 free safeties and projected he’d go in the 7th.

Big Blue View’s Chris Pflum reported that the Giants met with Bush and he believes Deon would be a fit for Steve Spagnuolo’s scheme.
