#5 Jasper Brinkley, ILB (30)

2016 Cap Hit: $1,800,000

Four forced fumbles, a sack, and 66 combined tackles in nine starts were enough to bring back Brinkley on a 1 year deal that includes a base salary of $1,200,000, a roster bonus of $500,000 and a workout bonus of $100,000. Brinkley has a cap hit of $1,800,000 while his dead money value is $1,700,000. Sufficed to say, Jasper would have to crap the bed for Big Blue to release him.

You have to admire how the Giants handled the middle linebacker position. The proven veteran returns, while two young bucks come in via free agency – Keenan Robinson and Kelvin Sheppard – to give Brinkley a run for his money. Nothing like healthy competition to create cream of the crop. The transactions significantly reduce the risk over this season, but also serve as an audition for 2017. While drafting a Mike is now less likely, adding one would pad the blow of losing one or all of the vets in 2017.
