The Giants selected LSU Tigers safety Greg Jackson 78th overall in the 1989 NFL Draft, one after Miami Hurricanes d-back Bubba McDowell went to the Houston Oilers, and a few selections ahead of wide receiver and special teamer Don Beebe to the Buffalo Bills, defensive end Tony Tolbert to Dallas Cowboys, and Baylor DB Ray Crockett to the Detroit Lions.

In five seasons with Big Blue, Jackson started 59 games out of 75 games played and had 14 interceptions, two forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, four sacks, and more than 300 combined tackles. Jackson was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in week 6 of the 1990 season while his 10 picks that year were fifth most league-wide. Greg was also on two of the top 10 Giants defenses since 1986.
