Drafted by the New York Giants in the 4th round (45th overall) of the 1956 NFL Draft, a full round before the Philadelphia Eagles selected Valparaiso guard Fuzzy Thurston, the Packers picked Indiana offensive lineman Bob Skoronski, and the G-Men snagged Florida’s Don Chandler.
In thirteen seasons with Big Blue, Katcavage played in 165 games and didn’t miss a game from 1961 – 1968. Over his career, Jim had 19 fumble recoveries, an interception, and three safeties.
Katcavage was a three-time Pro Bowler (1961, 1962, and 1963) and a first-team All-Pro in ’61 and ’63. Jim’s approximate value of 17 was third highest in the NFL in 1961.
