Running backs (4)

Who’s in: Saquon Barkley, Dion Lewis, Wayne Gallman, and Eli Penny

Who’s out: Jon Hilliman, Javon Leake, George Aston, and Sandro Platzgummer

Analysis:

With such limited time in camp, the NY Giants will turn to familiarity in the backfield for 2020.

Saquon Barkley returns as the team’s most talented player. He will be counted upon to lead the team’s offense and it will only go as far as he takes it.

Hopefully, he put a serious honus on blocking this offseason as he let his quarterback down far too many times in 2019 in that regard.

Dion Lewis joins the NY Giants for year 10 in his NFL career. He will come in for obvious passing situations as he excels in catching in the open field along with sturdy pass protection.

Gallman enters a make-or-break fourth season with the Giants. I was very close to putting Javon Leake in over the “Wayne Train” but I am giving him one last chance to put together a complete season in a complementary role to Barkley.

Penny returns to the offense to bring a blocking dimension and edge nobody else can match in the NY Giants’ backfield.

Hilliman fumbled his opportunity away last year, George Aston will not see enough reps to take Penny’s job, and Platzgummer is a nice, intriguing European prospect, but his chances of cracking the team’s roster are slim-to-none.
