In arguably Daniel Jones’ finest performance, and a lockdown showing late by the NY Giants’ defense, Joe Judge’s team moved to 3-7 by beating the Eagles

The NY Giants picked up their third win of the season and it was a big one.

The NY Giants’ 27-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles was their third in the NFC East, and they now have the most wins in the division.  They still have yet to defeat anyone outside of their division, but it’s been a solid showing for back to back week for New York.

Going into the bye week, the Giants had a lot of positive momentum. Dave Gettleman’s “hog molly” theory has been paying off. Both of the Giants’ lines have improved their play. The defensive line has been able to get to the opposing quarterback and stop the run in front of them. The offensive line has allowed Daniel Jones more time in the pocket.

Here are five takeaways from the New York Giants’ win at home over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Daniel Jones can finally put that embarrassing tumble from earlier this season behind him. Jones got the Giants first touchdown of the afternoon. He ran for 34 yards into the endzone. The Giants held their lead for the remainder of the game. Jones almost had a second rushing touchdown on the day, however, it was called back due to a holding penalty committed by Andrew Thomas.

While the Giants have played better in recent weeks, they are struggling to close out games. In the past two games, the Giants jumped out to early dominant leads. However, they allowed both Washington and Philadelphia to chip away at their lead in the second half.

The offense starts to stall, the defense starts to give up big yardage plays and suddenly it’s a tight game. On the first play of the second half, the Giants gave up their biggest rushing play of the season which turned into a Philadelphia touchdown. The Giants have to play better in the second half against teams outside of the NFC East.

This offense is finally showing off its potential. The offensive line has really been playing well and allowing Daniel Jones time in the pocket and he is returning the favor by keeping the ball secure. For the second week in a row, Jones did not turn the ball over and the improvement for the Giants’ offense overall is tremendous. Jones looks confident in passing and running the ball himself. Seeing this improvement and knowing this team is still missing Saquon Barkley has to make fans hopeful of Big Blue’s future.

A common complaint from Giants fans is how stale the offense has looked over the past few seasons. It was a conservative offense that led to frustration from fans and not many wins for the team. However, this week looked like the week Jason Garrett opened up the playbook.

From the first drive of the game that included Jones keeping it for a touchdown, the Giants looked like an offense that wanted to move the ball down the field. Jones looked to the outside for his deep ball receivers while looking confident in tucking the ball and running himself. It’s a trend I’m sure most fans hope to see continue especially as we wait for Barkley’s return in 2021.

It’s literally been years since New York defeated the Philadelphia Eagles.

However, it finally happened and the Giants have won back to back games against two division rivals. The key to victory? The Giants defense did not allow a single completion on third down.

The Giants defense made the necessary plays when it mattered most. That is something the Giants can absolutely build off of and become a better defense.  The playcalling also seemed to finally be a more aggressive approach, something Giants fans have been begging to see from this team. Good things happen when Daniel Jones finds Darius Slayton down the field.
