Devontae Booker’s downhill running style brings out the best of the NY Giants’ OL

The NY Giants’ offensive line has had significant issues this season.

From injuries, to a woeful inability to keep Daniel Jones, who has faced 64 pressures, or been pressured on over 20% of his drop backs, this season for the NY Giants’ offensive line hasn’t been much different from the half-decade or longer that has preceded it.

However, Sunday afternoon, it seemed that running back Devontae Booker brought out the best in this line.

The NY Giants committed overwhelmingly to running the football against the Raiders, calling 29 designed runs, 21 of which were Booker carries.

Booker flashed burst, explosiveness, and a downhill running style that helped him quickly hit the hole and get to the second-level of the Raiders’ defense.

Over the past three games, Booker has averaged 4.2 yards per carry and scored a touchdown.

There’s a very real possibility that Saquon Barkley returns following the NY Giants’ bye week, against the Buccaneers in two weeks. But, once Barkley is back in the lineup, his home run ability might be complemented perfectly by Booker’s rumbling downhill style that could help the NY Giants’ offense find a rhythm, bring out the best of both tacks, and perhaps even keep Barkley healthy by limiting his touches.

Keeping Booker on the field might be just what the doctor has ordered for this line and this offense.
