Worst aspects of NY Giants’ identity sink New York in loss to Buccaneers
Chris Godwin has his way with NY Giants
The NY Giants had no answers for Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin.
Godwin was a focal point of the Buccaneers’ opening eight-play 75-yard touchdown drive to begin the game.
Not only did the Buccaneers hit Godwin twice through the air for seven yards, but also handed the ball off to him on a seven-yard end-around.
On Tom Brady’s first touchdown pass of the game, with 11:09 remaining in the first quarter, Godwin hauled in a rocket screen, and thanks to solid downfield blocking, easily knifed through the NY Giants’ secondary for a 13-yard touchdown.
Godwin finished with six catches for 65 yards and a touchdown.
One of the game’s premier wide receivers, it was apparent early and often on Monday night that even the NY Giants’ revamped secondary — that had been playing significantly better football in recent weeks — were no match for the Brady-Godwin connection.
