Breakouts from young players

The NY Giants have struggled to produce in 2021.

But, that is due to an array of issues, ranging from Covid to unforeseen injuries among their top players. These setbacks, while having derailed the 2021 season, have potentially set up some young players to take an even bigger step in 2022. Many of these young Giants could step into more prominent roles next season.

Azeez Ojulari

Edge rusher Azeez Ojulari has solidified himself as a centerpiece of this defense for many years to come. The 2021 second-round pick currently leads the Giants in both sacks and tackles for loss. He has 7.5 and 8 in each respective category. But who’s to say he can’t become even better in 2022?

Ojulari is still just 21-years old and has played in only 13 games. Given an entire off-season full of preparation put alongside what he has already learned, he could erupt as a top edge rusher in the league.

Kadarius Toney

The NY Giants’ first-round pick still hasn’t necessarily found his footing in the NFL. Kadarius Toney has been limited to just nine games and started just four. Even after being underutilized for the first part of this season, Toney has still left his mark on the stat sheet.

Toney is second on the team in both receptions and receiving yards while playing fewer snaps than most of the NY Giants’ other top receiving options.

If Toney is able to head into 2022 healthy and built more into the offensive scheme, he could take off. A role similar to that of San Francisco 49ers wherever Deebo Samuel could be perfect for Toney. Utilizing him heavily in pre-snap motion and out of the backfield, specifically next to running back Saquon Barkley, could unlock new aspects of this offense. A full season out of Toney could help get this Giants offense back on track.
