NY Giants defense: B

While this was certainly not the best game from the NY Giants defense, they did pretty solid when you consider the combination of injured/sick players and the deadliness of the Dallas Cowboys offense.

The NY Giants defense did a very good job at containing the Cowboys star receivers. Holding Ceedee Lamb to six catches for 50 yards, Amari Cooper to two catches for eight yards, and Michael Gallup to three catches for 32 yards.

However, what really killed the NY Giants was their inability to cover a tight end. With up and coming star Dalton Schultz tallying eight receptions for 67 yards and a touchdown. This is mostly due to the lack of coverage ability from the NY Giants linebacker core.

Another thing the NY Giants struggled with was their ability to stop the run. With Cowboys star Ezekiel Elliot running the ball 16 times for 52 yards and a TD, alongside his backup Tony Pollard running the ball 12 times for 72 yards.

This is due to poor performances from the NY Giants defensive line. After a career-best performance last week, Dexter Lawrence only tallied 3 combined tackles and 1 QB hit, alongside Austin Johnson also only gaining 3 tackles. Danny Shelton also only added 3 solo tackles and 2 assists.

The NY Giants have struggled to stop the run all season, ranking 9th in rushing yards allowed. So it was not surprising to see them struggle.

The NY Giants defense spent the majority of this game on the field, and due to the lack of depth due to COVID issues, it is difficult to keep up a high level of play due to fatigue. With that in mind, alongside how deadly this Cowboys offense can be, I’d say the NY Giants defense did a pretty solid job.
